Is there a way to keep my cat from chewing her fur off? Is there a home remedy?

There are several things that could be the cause of this. You need to rule each one out in the following order...

Does she have fleas? If no, then proceed to next question...

Is she allergic to her food, any medications, ointments, powder, spray, drops or the shampoo you are using on her? If no, then proceed to next question...

Have you had her checked for a hormone imbalance? She may need hormones.

Some cats have a nervous habit and repeated grooming or chewing of fur is one of them. This could also be caused by an allergy and she is reacting and itchty and trying to scratch herself. I would take her to a vet to rule out the allergy or any other problem. After that, I have heard of the bitter apple stuff working to help a cat stop excessive grooming.

My cat did that too. It turned out it was allergies to fleas and the food I was feeding her.

Read the label on the food. If it contains any corn or wheat products, or if you can't pronounce all the ingredients, consider switching brands. Look into Innova EVO (the best in my opinion), California Natural, Wellness, Felidae and Artemis. All are all natural and have less nastiness in them.

Read "Foods Pets Die For" by Ann N. Martin if you don't believe me. You will be shocked and amazed at what they put in pet food.

Try Bitter Apple spray. Get it from the pet store. Some cats develop a taste for it though.

You probably treat for fleas already, but if not consider getting Advantage or Frontline for her. It's available from vets and some pet and feed stores.

Don't shave her fur off. There has to be a reason. For example have you seen fleas or flea dirt on her? It could be allergies or anxiety...there are a number of different reasons. She needs to go to the vet. Sometimes cats can just over clean an area but usually there is another cause and your vet can help you out.

You might need to take your cat to the vet. My mother's cat was very allergic to flea bites and would literally chew at her fur and skin.

This is symptomatic of an underlying issue. Just because you prevent her from chewing doesn't mean what's causing it is alleviated. She might have a medical condition or she may be experiencing anxiety.

If you go to your local pet store that have a spay that is called Bitter Apple. You can spray it on anything from furniture, pillows, or the pet themselves to keep them from chewing.

Take an electric razor and shave your cat's fur off yourself.
