the I is Marwood and of course deeply biographical to the great Bruce Robinson. The Withnail character is an amalgam of Vivian McKerril and Michael Feast, two formier room mates of Robinson's at Central School of Drama. The name Withnail was supposed to be Withnall, a chap BR knew as a child but because of his appalling spelling became Withnail.

Just to confirm, he was called Marwood and was played by Paul McGann. Cracking film. Have not watched it for years but might dig it out tonight and sink a few lagers in the process.

Marwood, played by Paul McGann, I found this film incredibly boring when made to watch it as part of my film studies in my media course at college.

He's called Marwood - although I don't really remember it being used in the film.

I don't think he had one - he was played by Paul McGann, that much I do know.

Just looked it up - it was Marwood, apparently.
