Why was my cat put on Dibenzaline?

My 5 yr old cat had a cystotomy (bladder stones removed) and one of the drugs he is on is dibenzaline. The only info I can find is that it lowers blood pressure, and can sometimes be used for urinary problems. I was just wondering what exactly it does in the urinary part of it. I am a former vet tech, but never heard of it before.

Dibenzaline is a trade name of the generic drug phenoxybenzamine. It is used in similar situations as diazepam (Valium) for cats that have had cystotomies or urethral obstructions. It relaxes the urinary sphincter and makes it easier for kitty to urinate.
