Less hungry since starting at gym?

I have been a lot less hungry since i have been going to the gym. this is very weird to me, because i would have thought that i would want to eat more since i am getting more exercise now. does anybody know the reason for this?

i have not really changed my diet in any way, as the purpose of joining the gym was not really to lose weight, but more to just get fit so that i could start enjoying sport again. i would have thought that i would be more hungry as i was using more energy up when i went to the gym, but that does not seem to be happening. is this normal, or am i just really weird?

You are not weird, this is perfectly normal.

I am the same way. I have started to exercise and I was surprised to discover that I am not starving after exercising. I think this would be your body's natural 'defense'. Your body was undergoing 'stress' (in a good way lol) and digestion of food straight after would exert too much energy. You might feel a little bit hungry in the following hours after exercising, once your body has adjusted. Also, your body is metabolising its own fat deposits (sorry, this is coming out the wrong way, but I cannot describe it any other way lol) and would feel no need for further energy fuel. Make sure that you actually do eat something in the hours following your exercise and drink heaps of water!

I have been in the fitness field for over 20 years. I have been 260lbs all the way down to 120lbs. I have 6 children, I have worked out at certain times anywhere from 3 classes a week to 20 classes a week.(the latter not suggested) From all that..I have found that the earlier classes I do (6:00AM-9:30AM) the hungrier I am during the day. The night time classes (6:00-9:00pm) leave me feeling more energized and less hungry. The exact physics of it..I do not know, however, I have just come to accept it and go with the flow.. Good Luck

Probably your body is adjusting to the workout lifestyle and your body does not find food as attractive because excessive eating makes it tough to work out.

I did extreme hiking for many years, during which time I shed a lot of weight. The last thing you want going up a mountain is an extra 5 lbs or 10lbs, so the thought of food made me sick!

Only eat when you are hungry. It's OK to eat (fruit is the best)before your work out , just don't eat heavy because it will re-direct some of the energy needed to get a good complete work out to burn off the food you just consumed.

Exercising increases your metabolism which is why you're not hungry. You eat to create fuel for your body to function. By increasing your metabolism, your body is using the stored fuel to function instead of telling you you're hungry.
