Why does my kitten hate my friend?
Whenever one of my male friends is over at my house my 6 month old kitten will hiss and growl at him. Cupid is not like this when anyone else comes over. He even continues to hiss and growl at me when my friend leaves. What could be going on to make Cupid act like this. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE!!!!
My friend does have 3 dogs and a rabbit so that may be it. I'm not sure though because Cupid has been around other people with dog scents on them and has never acted this way before.
Cupid is neutered.
Is there anything that I can do to help with him hissing? My fiance puts him into the bedroom when our friend is over, but he will still hiss and growl at me when I go in there. I give him tons of attention when our friend is over. Like I said, it's only when this person comes over that Cupid acts like this. My younger kitten is good when our friend is over. He will go over to our friend and play with him and wait for our friend to pet him.

Well, i am 2 cats and they usually act like that when they feel that person is not genuine and wants to hurt them or doesn't like them. It could be he is letting out negative energy towards the cat. Animals are just like babies they have natural instincts.
Update* i do not believe it has to do with the smell of dog on your friend. I have also 2 dogs that live outside with us and i have not had any problems. (No the cats and dogs don't get along) so i don't think that is it. Like i said before your friend must of done something that pissed him off or he knows your friends does not like him. CATS KNOW trust me!

from the sounds of it the kitten doesn't like your friend for many reasons.
1. the kitten knows he is a dog lover from the scent of dogs on him.
2. he might feel this tense feeling in the air about him not liking cats..
3. maybe when he is over your friend takes up specail time that you have with your cat and it feels like it's not getting the attention it wants.
there could be many reasons why a kitten gets upset and hisses. these are just the most common reasons. hope this helps you out. good luck!

All 3 of my cats have come to like my puppy, one million was once already right here after we received him , one million we introduced house after already having the puppy, and one million was once born right here with the puppy. The kitten born right here ADORES the puppy however the different 2 to start with hated him, found out to tolerate him and now rub up towards his legs and nuzzle at his face. Given the situations I'd say any cat or kitten can gain knowledge of to a minimum of tolerate the presence of a puppy, assuming the puppy is not an instigator.

He truly senses something bad about your friend. I would take that as a serious red flag and keep that friend at arms length. If that friend has to come over, explain to him that he has to keep his tone soft and to also walk gently. He has to prove to Cupid that he is trustworthy. But, Im guessing things wont change. Cupid knows something is wrong w/ this dude and wont change till the guy just doesnt come around any longer.

Sometimes cats just don't like people like humans. We had this female cat who hated my uncle even though he found her. She was a stray and hanging on his screen door and he pulled her off and she started hissing and then jump to my mother and we ended up taking her home because she hated my uncle. She would do the hissing when he come over to visit also. Just put the cat in another room when your friend comes if the hissing and growing bothers you.

Does your friend have any pets that he lives with? Are you closer to your friend than others (more than just friends?)? It could be that Cupid is either jealous or smells the other pets and isn't used to it or doesn't like the smell.

I agree with everyone that posted about him carrying a certain scent your cat doesn't like. I have a friend (female) who my cat reacts to the same way. I believe my cat is reacting to the smell of her dog. Before she got the dog, my cat loved her, now he won't go near her and growls.

I have a few theories....
Either your friend did something mean to the kitten when you were not around, or your friend reminds him of someone else that was mean.
Could also be that your friend carries some sort of smell on him that you would not notice, but that the kitten is afraid of, like maybe a dog?

Well if your kitten is male and your friend is he might see him as competition honestly if hes not famillier with him i know it sounds strange but its true and even more so if your cat hasnt been neutered yet. My cat used to be like that with my boyfriend until he got neutered

He hates your friend. Maybe there's a scent in him that he dislikes. Does he have a dog?
