on COPS why do the arrested never acknowledge the camera crew?

They go around with lights, boom mikes, etc.....why do the arrested never appear to notice the camera crew.

On the Canadian show To Serve and Protect the people almost always notice the camera and even talk into it.

Why is this with the TV show COPS????

1- People dont like to stare into bright lights

2- They dont want people to see their face on camera- then change their mind when they get a waiver and money out of it.

3- They edit a lot out.

4- They have distance lenses they can use and they use the mics the officers are outfitted with for sound.

    5- too high/scared/freaked out/drunk to care.

Now the real question is...how do they even keep up with the cops while carrying all that gear- looking with one eye through a lense peice- with a boom mic stick. SOme of them even outrun the cops!

All-be-it the cops do have more than their fair share of equiptment to carry arround too.

If you read the "small print" in the credits, you'll discover that "Cops" is filmed using a camera crew employing some recent developments in Stealth technology, so basically they are almost invisible to the crooks. This technology is imperfect as yet, which is why you'll sometimes see them on camera through the television. One of the wrinkles that needs to be ironed out is that a regular TV can "unscramble" the invisibility beam.

I am restricted from actually saying to much, but it is not all as real as they want you to think it is. There are often "reshoots " of events to make it look the way they want it.

also note that most of the times there are 10 other police cars there first, when the camera gets there, they have already gotten everyone ready for the camera.

They always edit that stuff out. The show is nothing but edited for drama. Lots of times, they even use the same scenes over again. Most police stops can last for hours...obviously you aren't going to see every little conversation, personal information, and all the goof ups that happen, it's not good for the show or tv in general.

The criminals don't pay attention to the camera all the time but when they do not they are usually drunk, high and many other things. So my answer is they are to busy thinking others things to care about the camera men

The camera crew uses a tele photo lens and they are a long ways off but to the T.V it looks close.

I've always thought that was weird too.

Every once in a while though, you see an obnoxious drunk who makes a reference to the camera crew.

it's supposed to LIVE and TRUE...you aren't supposed to see the COPS talk to the camera....ruins the show...
