Don Imus:"nappy-headed hos"?

He called a black female baskeball team "nappy-headed hos." How do you feel about his comments? Should he be fired?

Nope. He should not be fired. He should be fined an insane amount of money to match his insane comment. They do it in other sports. he should have to pay for thoughtless comments like those.

I just posted a question about this. I should have checked about other posts first.

Anyway, I do think he was wrong for what he said and should have had an FCC fine to go along with his two week suspension. The fact that he made a comment about nappy hair was offensive to the black women on the team. But the "ho" comment was offensive to everyone women black, white or otherwise on that team. But if we want a talk show host to be giving a hard time about what he said. Then consumers have to stop supporting misogynistic rap music that objectifies and belittles all women.

indeed it's a horrible comment, i'm more concerned about the tone and reason of his comment. It's too easy to push peoples buttons. The whole idea of a shock Jock is to push peoples buttons. I make fun of everybody and it's always offensive. I stay away from racial humor for polite conversation but when push comes to shove and you are just trying to hurt someone with your words. It's too damn easy with black people. One word and i can ruin your whole day, keep you occupied on other matters while i take care of business. That's not good for you. There are some places in the world and the US where underhanded tactics are used. I learned as a teenager not to allow people to bait me into violence or anger, how do you draw a line on what is acceptable, i guess that's what laws do all the time but these are dependent on the society supporting you, and sometimes you're on your own.

I don't think he had any reason to pull out the big insults against them and he is accountable to advertisers and the public who don't approve of such shennanigans.

OK, let's cut to the chase. I've seen the video. It's a comment he tossed off in, perhaps, a failed effort to be hip and cool. Where did this phrase come from? Those that embrace the (c)rap culture and like to swagger with their hands on their crotches. I'm sorry, but you can't introduce, embrace and encourage a lifestyle and then express outrage when someone you consider an outsider also uses it. I would like to know why there is not equal outrage over the lyrics constantly used in rap and hip-hop "music". These "artists" actively encourage treating women like objects for their sexual gratification, and let's be honest, it's usually downtrodden African-Americans that embrace the millions of dollars they are rightfully rewarded with that continue to perpetuate this myth. They can have Eminem, most white people are ashamed of ole Marshal.

What happened here was a lapse of judgement. It was stupid. But the root cause needs to be stopped, and at the moment it is coming from the African-American community itself.

    No, I'm not racist. I'm a realist.

The "black" female basketball team wasn't all "black", so unless he specifically stated that the nappy headed hos were the black players then you and everyone else is jumping to conclusions. For you to say that he was only speaking of the black players means that you assume that because they are nappy headed. His comment may have been rude, but certainly not racist. Haven't you ever heard of the boy who cried wolf? Keep crying racism and one of these days no one will believe you anymore.

Oh yah, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and all these other sad excuses for reverends need to go somewhere and die. They can be as racist as they want but people tend to look the other way, like racism against white people is somehow ok. Get a clue, if you say that white racism against blacks is bad then black racism against whites is also bad. To think otherwise makes you a hypocrite.

Check out the two articles below, especially the first one. I don't think that what came out of Imus' mouth in this instance was particularly awful, but given his history...he had it coming.

The second article is about racist stuff on other shows. In the end, I'd gladly trade Imus' head for Limbaugh's or O'Reilly's. But seeing how the public forgave the first for being a pill-popping hypocrite and the latter for making creepy phone calls to underlings while jerking it, I'm guessing those guy would need to suck a fetus out of pregnant woman's vagina through a crazy straw and devour that **** on national TV before their automaton followers woke up to what bastards they are.

But seriously, check out the articles.

Imus is a jerk and has always been a jerk. But he's a shock jock. He says things that a lot of people don't like. But I don't see anything RACIST about "nappy headed ho's". If anything, it's sexist to women being "ho's" (a word used too frequently in rap songs). I've got straight red hair and believe me, it can get nappy! This Irish girl can certainly have nappy hair!

Bottom line, he can say what he'd like because he's protected by the first ammendment. And you can practice your freedom of choice by not listening. So, who cares?

What are your thoughts on Jesse Jackson's bigotry when he called NYC "Hymietown"???? He's just as bad!

Brian, he is not a conservative, he is a Liberal and has said that many times (anti-war, voted for Kerry, etc). Being a nutty old insensitive white guy does not automatically make you right wing (look at Joe Biden and Robert Byrd). There are many examples of Liberals saying insensitive, offensive things. Wake-up!

But I would say that as a joke, this goes way too far. Those young ladies have done nothing wrong or offensive, if anything, they should be admired and looked up to for the hard work they did to get to the final NCAAW game, so they should be off limits for offensive jokes. I'm not against offensive jokes, but I think you need to do something offensive before you deserve to be the butt of them.

If Imus were black it would be just another oh so funny joke that blacks are aloud to say about each other all the time. But he is white, so now its such a big deal. Get over it, god knows us white people get over it every time a black comedian starts in on his cracker jokes. Heaven forbid a white man tells a black joke.

First, its not a team of just black girls they have other colors there, true most are black but think about this, Why is it that black people get away with racial slurs between themselves and other races but when somebody talks back to them or try to use the same language they be using on rap videos BET and black talk shows there is news conference evrywhere. Give me a break. If black people is allowed to use it so is everybody else. Its either a thing for everybody to follow or for none to follow at all!!!

This is crap. You hear black people talk about white people on the radio calling us crackers and other racist jokes. I am not out there calling for firings. Get over it people. All the rappers use these terms, you dont hear them complaining about that. The users of the black people jesse and al, get a life, help your people rather than use them.
