I have a female cat and am considering getting a kitten. Should I get a male or female?

I'm not sure which gender would be the best match for a spayed 2 year old female cat.

They might not have as much conflict, especially in the territorial sense, if you get a male.

On the other hand, I've read that two males are more likely to get along than a male and a female. Maybe that's the case for two females as well, though I've read and seen nothing to support that...

    I think I'd get a male.

Instead of going with gender I would try to find a kitten whose personality you like the best. If you have an outgoing cat I would go with an outgoing kitten, if you have a more laid back cat, a calmer kitten might be a good choice. It worked for us! The first cat we adopted is male and he is very outgoing and playful so when we adopted another kitten we looked for similar personality traits. The two of them have a blast together!!

Male but get it neutered or he's going to spray everywhere. Although she does not go in heat anymore, she still gives off a female scent that will cause him to spray.

There is a reason they call women fighting a cat fight or girls getting catty with each other.

I'd go with the female kitten because the males like to mark their space. it will leave your house smelling funny!
