How can you get cats to get along when you bring one in to another home where there is already a cat?

I recently had to move back home with my mom.....I have a male cat that is almost 5 who has done remarkably well...however, she has a female cat that is not quite 2 yet who is having a hard time adjusting. She has started "popping" in the kitchen floor....I am assuming because of the sent of my Butterscotch......any ideas on how to get her to get along with my cat and get her to stop going to the bathroom on the kitchen floor......She refuses to get along with my baby...hissing all the time....but I don't want to see her go because she is a beautiful simease.....any help would be greatly appreciated....

i've given this advice before and it has never failed. Take a cotton ball, rub it on the first cat, then rub it on the new cat's nose. They will get along.

If it doesn't work after the first time try a second, but it does work.

Check this website. It's deals with cat-to-cat introductions and is informative.

Patience is required and time. Sometimes they won't ever get along, but that is rare. You are bringing an 'interloper' into your mom's cat's territory and she doesn't like it a bit and is showing you doesn't the only way she knows how.

Feeding them together sometimes helps, and getting them to play together (like dragging a string along the floor) also can help.

As far as the baby, that is something new and scary to her with new smells. She probably will stay away from the baby but will gradually warm up to her when she finds out that it isn't something that is going to 'get her'. The hissing is a warning to 'stay out of my way'.

It's just too many changes and too many new things for your mom's cat to take in at once. Give it some time, she should settle down. She may not like it, but cats are good at adjusting.

I would put the new cat (I think Butterscotch) behind a closed door for several days, this will allow the old cat to get used to the scent of the new cat.

The previous cat is experiencing quite a change, and since she is still young is acting out.

There isn't really any sure way to make two cats get along.

When one cat has been in a house for a long time, they can get very territorial upon new arrivals, however if you try and keep them apart at first and then let them speand more and more time together slowly, then they may adjust. If they fight, you shouldn't shout at them. Shouting at a cat may scare it, or break up the fight, but it won't teach them to stop. You need to train your cats and show them that fighting is wrong. If you need help, search the internet for websites about training cats or contact a cat trainer for advice.

I recently went through this experience. You need to gradually make them get used to each other. If you lock the new cat up in one room, the other cat will be able to smell it and it will get used to the scent. After about a week, you should let the cats be together. Don't worry if they don't get along at first and fight. They are just getting to know each other. After a few weeks, they will get along and they will hopefully not fight any more. Over time they will be friends and they will grow to love each other. Good Luck!!

you could put your cat in a room and offcourse the other cat will walk past then it will get it scent but it won't be happy probley and after a few days let it out and let the cats get used to eachother.....or just leave the too cats be

Keep them apart for awhile then put them together and they may slowly get used to eachother. They may just need to get used to having another cat in the area.

TO GET THEM ADJUSTED TO BEING AROUND EACH OTHER, YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR CAT IN A CARRIER AND "INTRODUCE" YOUR CAT TO YOUR MOMS CAT BY JUST LETTING HIM SMELL YOUR CAT. HE SEEMS TO HAVE A TERRTITORIAL ISSUE. IT JUST TAKES TIME.
