Oh what fun! I threw a carnival birthday party for my daughter's 4th. This is what I did:

Ducks with colors on the bottom. I had bins in matching colors and they picked a prize out the bin that matched the duck.

Foam picture frames that they glued decorations on.

Bean bag toss into a target with numbers on it. The number that the bean bag landed on was how many toys they got to choose out of the bucket.

I hired a clown for about $100 to do face painting and balloon animals. Instead, enlist parents or teens to do this. Contact your local Girl Scout council and ask for volunteers. Some girls will do this to earn a patch or their bronze/silver awards.

Musical chairs is always a hit. Cake walks are fun and delicious. Do you have a party rental place nearby? Perhaps they will be willing to donate a blow up moonwalk or at least slash the price drastically in exchange for advertising.

We also liked the game where the kids put their shoes in a pile at the end of a line. They have a relay race to run down, find their shoes, put them on and run back to tag up with their team members.

    Try familyfun.com for more ideas.

Most of all ~ have fun!!

We have a school carnival every year. Ducks in the pool are great. Throw rings on them or pick one with a certain # on the bottom, win that prize. We had the sucker pull, (colored stick wins a prize). Try crafts, check Michaels or Oriental Trading co. Bowling pins, (knock down so many and win a prize). A fishing line with a magnet on the end, picks up prize with magnet on it. etc. Throw balls in a basket. There are lots of fun ideas for little ones. Try bean bags in a hoola hoop, or tennis balls in a hoola hoop or anything in a hoola hoop. The most in wins. etc....have fun!

I think that's a REALLY cool idea. What state are you in? My daughter goes to Head Start and I would be thrilled if they did something like that, and she'd have a BLAST!

Bear Toss game - Throw the stuffed teddy bear into the tub to win.

Frisbee Toss - Throw the frisbee through the hoops to win.

Can Smash - Throw the beanbag and knock off all 6 cans to win.

Horseshoe Toss - Toss horseshoes and get a ringer to win.

Western Hat Toss - Toss hats and make them stay on the bull horns to win.

Crazy Dot - If your ball lands on one of the red dots you win.

Over Under - Roll 3 balls to a total fewer than 5 points or over 9 points to win.

Lollipop Tree - Choose a lucky lollipop marked with a red dot and you win.

Big Mouth Game - Throw the beanbags in the big mouth to win.

BeanBag Toss - Throw the beanbags in the holes to score points and win.

Spill The Milk - Throw the beanbag and knock all 3 bottles off the table to win.

Tip The Troll - A real classic! Toss bean bags to knock over the trolls to win.

Shuffleboard Game - Slide the puck and knock down the pins to win.

Tin Pan Alley Game - Roll the ball into the colored holes on the tin pans to win.

Tic-Tac-Toe - Traditional Midway favorite! Line-up 3 in a row and you win.

Cover The Spot - Fun for all ages, just cover the spot with the giant toss “spots”.

Duck Pond - Pick a marked duck from the pond to win a prize.

"Over under" could help with math too. And i think the Troll one is pretty cool too. There's a huge list on the site below. I just went on google and typed in "Top Carnival Games" Most of them can be modified for kids.

Goldmine - big bucket filled with styrofoam packing pieces and small prizes - they stick their hand in and get to grab a prize.

Obstacle course.....tunnels to crawl through, etc.

    Parachute play.

Beanbag toss. Either a target to throw at or a "tic tac toe" type game.

    Relay races.

Cakewalk with donated goodies from local bakeries or PTA moms for prizes.

A dunk tank will bring in LOTS of money especially if you can get a teacher or the principal to sit in it. You'd have a long line waiting for that. What do you think of karaoke? What about a dance contest? Winners chosen by applause. The prize would be a CD of the song they danced to.
