I'm 20 weeks too and we just started registering for things. We won't know the sex until friday (I hope). But I made sure to get all the basic stuff and make a price range from 10 dollars to 200 dollars so people don't feel like they have to get something expensive. Then when I find out the sex I'll put some clothes on there but for now everything is in neutral colors and the basic stuff like bottles, washclothes, bath time stuff, etc.... It's fun to register! I couldn't help it...lol. My baby shower is supposed to be around my birthday in June, when I'm 7 months. Good luck and Congrats!!

With my first, I registered for things after my 20 week ultrasound when I found out he was a boy. However, because he was 9 weeks premature, I didn't have my shower until after he came home from the hospital (he came home when he was a month old, but I think he was 6 weeks old when I had the shower). I went to the store to stock up on essentials while he was in the hospital and what I didn't pick up, I got for the shower. For this pregnancy, I should be having a shower next month or so, just in case he's born premature too (I'm 24 weeks and on bed rest right now). I think now is a good time for you to register, since you'll be feeling up to walking around the store to look at different items. Then you can just let your mom or mother-in-law or someone know you have registered and at what store and let them take it from there.

Someone threw me a baby shower when I was 7 months along. Someone else, preferably a friend, should throw the baby shower for you, so it does not look like a gift grab.

I registered online at babiesrus starting at about 12 weeks for a few decorative items just for fun, but didn't put most of the stuff on there until about 6 weeks or so before the shower.

If you get the chance, its nice to go to the store and look at the stuff in person rather than do it all online, but I just did it online, using user reviews and consumer reports to try and pick out the best stuff.

I was 24 weeks along when I registered, and had a shower the next weekend, have one 2 weekends from now, and have another one at 37 weeks... my family is insane, though, so a ton of showers isn't unusual for us...

Oh and some ppl forget this- register for DIAPERS! Lots of them!!

I don't think there is any realy guideline about at what stage of pregnancy you register and have a shower... I think the later the better, personally-- its more fun and makes the whole thing seam more real when you're big and fat and sitting in a chair surrounded by friends and family playing silly baby games, hahaha...

At 20 weeks you can start thinking about a registry for sure. I would go ahead and register for the biggies like my car seat, stroller, swing, high chair, baby bedding, etc. That way your family can start thinking about what they might want to get you (my parents and parents-in-law got us most of our biggies.) You can certainly register for smaller stuff too, just remember to update your registry as gifts start to trickle in before your shower.

I personally think having your shower around 6-8 weeks before you deliver is a good idea. You want to have plenty of time to return/exchange gifts if you need to, wash everything and get everything put together so you are all set when baby arrives. This way you have a little extra time to purchase anything you still need after the baby shower, too. (You don't want to be crunched for finances a week before your due date and still no car seat!) If you wait too long, baby may come early, so I wouldn't plan the baby shower for any later than 4 weeks before DD at the *very* latest, just in case. I think 6-8 weeks before hand is a much better idea!

Registering for baby gifts is lots of fun - enjoy! And congratulations in advance on your new baby! Being a mom is the *best*!

I started a registry at Babies R Us the day I got my positive hpt, so 4 weeks along. I also just had a miscarriage 2 months prior and tried to conceive for 6 years so I was anxious to get a start on it. But a majority of the things on my registry didn't get on there til about 18 weeks when I found out I was having a boy. My baby shower was planned by my mother and was at 36 weeks. I was scared it was to late and I may have my baby to early, but it worked out great, I was huge and looking very pregnant which was nice, and I didn't deliver til 40 weeks. Good luck and congrats!

For me...because I was moving....I had my shower around 24 weeks!!

Traditionally people have their shower in the 7th or 8th month. But you can, honestly, have it anytime now that you want!! I would definately go ahead and register, either way, because people may want to get you something even BEFORE a shower is thrown!! Also...those hosting it may look to your registry for inspiration on a theme, etc.

So....pick some great stores this week and make it a goal to be fully registered by week's end!! So much fun picking out baby stuff.....

If you happen to need a custom diaper cake (or want to hint to your hostesses that you do!!) I create custom diaper cakes that make EXCELLENT centerpieces at the baby shower. Each one I make is distinctive and unique....like your baby!! I also offer some SENTIMENTAL baby shower activity ideas on my pages! Check it out, if you like!

    Congratulations and GOOD LUCK!

I started looking at registry stuff when I was about 8 weeks lol. I figured the only way I'm going to get stuff i want is online anyway since i live on an over seas military base. Now that I'm further along I kinda go back and eliminate things i don't really need or things that I've picked up on my own lol. As for a baby shower I'm not sure...this is my first and hopefully someone here will throw me one since my family cant.

Well for me I started registering after my first trimester. And, depending on how your pregnancy goes(that is if you don't start having pre-labor situations), than usually baby showers are given at the last trimester of your pregnancy! Though it is getting a lot more popular to have the baby shower after the baby is born (this is so that everyone knows for sure what the gender and size of the baby is! It's always fun though to start anytime registering--you get to go through all that cute stuff!!! Congratulations!

I was 5 months old when I had my baby shower with this pregnancy and I only registered for it like a week in advance. I wasn't expecting one at all, but my boss surprised me with the news she was having one for me a week before hand!! It's really up to you on when you want to have one. I know people that have waited until the month before they were due and some that did it when they were anywhere from 5 to 7 mths pregnant. it's really your decision. Good Luck & Congrats!!
