Cat playing to rough with other cat?

I have two cats, they are brother and sister and have not been separate at all since their birth. I have had them since they were 9 wks old..they are going on 2 yrs now. Recently the male cat has been attacking my female cat and removing large chunks of fur from her neck. This last time the chunk is pretty bad and I think I need to take her to the vet...how do I get the male cat to stop ? He is playing to rough.

if your male cat isn't neutered, i think it's time to start thinking about it, unless you're planning on breeding him. they're just like humans; when they don't get any, they can get moody or aggressive.

other than that, you definately need to find a way to get him to calm down. i went through the same thing when i first got my cat last year. it's a female, but sometimes when she's playing with my dog, it can get kind of vicious. i suggest finding some literature on animal behavior and find some kind of solution that fits the needs of your cat. keep in mind, he may not necessarily be playing. even domesticated pets can still have some wild animalistic tendencies. perhaps something has changed that has caused him to feel threatened by her? if you do take the female to the vet, i would definately get some advice while there.

You didnt mention whether or not your cats have been fixed. Males can get pretty rough when they are .....horny.

I have a younger male and an older female the male just loves to attack her. They are both fixed and he is just playing with her, but sometimes he really bites her hard! But they are just playing.

You may need to take the male into the vet if he is fixed. Some aggression can be a medical issue causing them to act out.

    Good luck

I've heard that kitten taken away too early can end up being aggressive. Cat mothers would not teach newborns to play yet anyway.
