What is the reason for baby dedications?

I am a strong believer in the Lord. But I do not like following man-made traditions. Is a baby dedication significant to the Lord, or does it just make for a pretty Church activity.?

It's symbolism for the Family and the child. It's just a promise to God and your church that you will raise the child in the most Christ-like atmosphere possible.

It is often done by protestants in lieu of the Catholic baptism because we believe that a person must get saved based on their own conclusions.

overall They're not really necessary but they're super cute.

It depends on which sect you ask. Some do not believe in performing baptism until the receiver is at an age where he or she knows what's going on. Some don't perform it at all at any age. Others do perform infant baptism as a symbolic rite that the child is going to be raised under that religion, and a reminder for the parents of the responsibility they'll be facing.

Birth is an amazing thing, so like any notable event, I don't see what's wrong with wanting to celebrate the event with ceremony.

It is a time of Reminding Parents, and charging them with Responseability to God to Nurture and train the Child,so that when Child reaches that"Age"of accountability it will be the most natural thing for child to say yes to God and His Way,I might add in the Church I attend ,Everyone is asked to encourage parents and also to live a Life as an Example.

As to Child it can be A landmark in their Life,There will be other Landmarks,in Life,We don"t Baptized the Child,That is Reserved for A Person"s Freewill.

My son was dedicated. It was a sign and a promise to God that I would raise my son up in church and as a christian. It's also a way of the church saying they are going to help doing so. Not only does it tell God this but Satan as well...THIS CHILD BELONGS TO GOD! I don't think it's a pretty church activity

a real baby dedication (not just a pretty ceremonial in the church) is absolutely significant because you want and trust God to take good care of your baby's life, instead of being grabbed by the devil; but as a parent, you are the one who has the right to dedicate the baby, not the priest!

congratulations, and Jesus bless you and your family

All rituals have the significance that YOU assign to it. If you think its pretty Church activity, then that's all it is. Personally, I think its a way to initiate your child in the church, ask for the help and protection of your community, and officially welcome your child into your family. But I guess it could just be pretty Church activity, too.

When the baby is an adult, he/she will have to make their own decisions about God. But the dedication process (to me, anyway) is just a special prayer to ask God to watch over and be involved in the child's life.

John tha Baptist baptised Jesus and he stated to do as he had executed, or somthing to that influence. hence human beings get baptised bcause Jesus did. human beings now baptise their babies for various reasons. One is by technique of the fact they are falsely afraid that their infants is in basic terms no longer usually used into Gods kingdom without it. some think of they should do it as a manner to be sure that their baby will grow to be teh Christian believer that they are. and a few do it in basic terms because of the fact they actually do no longer understand any better and are going with the herd. i in my opinion think of that folk ought to attend till the youngster is older and enable them to make the alternative and likewise enable them to have a element in the memory of it. It says no the place in the bible that we ought to baptize our babies in any different case.

I assume you mean baptism? It's so your loving god doesn't condemn your baby to eternal hellfire, should he or she die before communion.
