This is not my cat, I am trying to help a friend......?

My friend rescued a cat from the humane society. She took her to the vet to get her shots and to get her fixed. She got all of her shots and my friend was told that he cat was pregnant. She decided to go ahead and fix her and to abort the kittens. She took the cat home, then when it was time took her back to get her stitches out. About 5 days after the stitches came out, the holes (where the stitches were) started oozing puss. She put some neosporin on it and called the vet. The vet told her to use peroxide and watch it. After 3 days, it looked like it was getting worse, so she took the cat in and got oral antibiotics for it. Now it is almost 12 days after stitches came out and 2 or 3 days of antibiotics and the cat started bleeding from the stitch holes. She rushed her back to the vet and the vet kept her. When my friend called and asked about picking her up, the vet said that they had to open her back up, but they did not tell my friend why. Has anyone ever had a similar problem?

Update:

I am going to show up at the vet in the morning, because I want to make sure she gets answers. I wonder if they left something inside her?

Update 2:

I showed up at the vet today and asked questions. According to the vet, the cat was allergic to the stitches that they had put inside (these dissolve and do not have to be removed). Anyway, they had to go back in and clean out what was left of the stitches. She seemed very good when I saw her. She had been re-stitched and all swelling had gone down. Also, she was newly pregnant and was able to have kittens to be aborted. I don't know the laws, but this was a licensed vet and would not have broken the law to abort the kittens. No one even knew that she was pregnant, it must have happend at the humane society.

go to another vet this is not right. it is not right the wound is infected. i am surprised that the vet fixed her with her being pregnant because it can be dangerous for the cat. it is illegal here to fix a pregnant cat after three weeks of pregnancy here.but it does happen. i hope the cat gets better but an infection like this is not good. my lil girl had a hormonal imbalance and caused her to get a form of mastitis while pregnant but she was to far along to spay her. she is still on antibiotics. but is much better now. spaying a cat while pregnant causes imbalances with hormones hence they don't like doing it.

Oh noooo!!!! The poor kitty! You are a great friend to take time to provide moral support for your freind who own this kitty. You are right that the vet has some explaining to do. I have two male cats right now but a long time ago, I had a female and when she got spayed, her stitches burst and her incision opened up. I was distraught! Fortunately, my vet then already prescribed a course of antibiotics after the surgery so there was no pus. I did take my cat back and they fixed her incision. Did your friend's vet prescibe post-operative antibiotics and pain med? If I were your freind, I would DEFINITELY look for another vet. This one sounds like a butcher!

This sounds like a story one woman told us on here about her own botched hernia surgeries and the ongoing infection. God! I hope she did not die and got cured.

This cat should probably be in an emergency veterinary hospital for a few days on IV antibiotics. Maybe it is not the vet's fault, but if it were me, I'd want that cat in an animal hospital where they have people watching and caring for the animals 24/7. I would want to visit my cat every day or even twice a day. The cat will be weakened from time laying around in a cat bed without exercise.

I hope the cat makes it through the night and the next weeks it will take for recovery.

Source(s): Your friend can probably bring along the cat's favorite toy or blanket, if it is clean. It might raise her spirits.
  • Woh its another house episode except its an animal!!1 Umm Im sure the cat will be fine cuz mabey at night when you were sleeping it stried to do something to the stiches so is started bleeding but i have no idea about the puss part.

He thinks you're a female cat that's in heat and is trying to mate with you. It's normal for animals who have horrible owners who can't even afford to neuter their pets.

wow. that is kind of odd. Wouldn't your vet tell you somthing like that. Maybe something is infected or they didn't stich it the right way. all i knoe is that, the vet shuld tell you everything.
