How would you ...?

explain to a 4 &6 year old how they got out of your belly. A neighbor dog had puppies night before last and my 4year old little girl and 6 year old son want to know how they got out of my belly. I just changed the subject. had no idea what to tell them. I think they are to young to know where they came out at.

Update:

my six yr old used to think th dr. cuts the belly then there is a baby. now he don't believe it because I don't have a cut or scar on my belly.

I told my kids that they came out of my uterus through my vaginal canal, which is part of my 'private parts'. I explained how their skull wasn't hard yet & the bones overlapped so that they could fit out. We looked at pictures/diagrams on-line.

What's wrong with telling them the truth?

Tell them the truth. It doesn't have to be graphic - just let them know that the baby grows inside your belly in a special sack called the "uterus," and when it's time, the baby comes out of your vagina. You can tell them that this is why girls have vaginas.

mu kids still think the dr pushes down on my belly and they are born dont have a clue from where though. let them no that when its time for the baby to arrive mommy goes to the dr and the dr helps the baby come out when asked how, you can always tell them they put mommy to take a nap and when she wakes up the baby is here so you have never really seen it h appen.

My daughter (age 6 now) was interested in knowing as well how babies come out of the mommies belly to at around age 4; and I totally agree with you how do you explain it to such a young child, so I fibbed a little and told her that she came out of my belly button. It was quick simple and she has never asked again.

Just tell them the truth, chances are they won't understand the words you are using anyway and they will stop asking. Sometimes a quick honest answer satisfies their curiosity.

If you're afraid of mentioning your unmentionables, then why not describe a c-section?
