Thinking of the MaCanns there was a case in America?

Where the child (a little girl) was killed in the house and the only suspects in the end were the parents, they were never really questioned by police and always had a lawyer present, there was no forced entry into the house, and everyone else was alright. Can anyone of our American friends hekp with this and does something seem familar with the current case of the MaCanns.

Maybe wrong but reading all the stuff in the papers what is said by contributors the news etc. makes you think?

I can remember a case but the victim was a boy - Ricky Holland, 7 years old. His mother threw him against a refrigerator with such force that it killed him, and the father witnessed it. They decided to put the boy's body in a plastic bag and dump it in a marsh and then call the police and report the boy missing. They had about 2,000 people out doing foot searches in a 200 mile radius of the home, the boy's picture was on milk cartons, they put up posters in five states, the parents got on TV and cried crocodile tears and the story had national coverage.

After 6 months with no new leads, the police started looking at the parents again, and by this time the father could no longer keep up the charade. He broke down and confessed, the couple was tried and found guilty of manslaughter.

The case most similar to that of the McCanns was in 1999, when a middle class British couple, Philip and Jill Adam, left their 1 year old and 5 year old in a hotel room in Florida while they went "no more than 100 yards away" to watch a fireworks display. The children became extremely distressed and the five year old left the room then got locked out and was found wandering around by another hotel guest, who called security, security went into the room and found the 1 year old bawling his eyes out and called the police. The parents were arrested when they returned to the room an hour later after their "night out with the adults". Just like the McCanns, they claimed they were checking on the children every half hour; just like the McCanns they claimed to be within 100 yards of the room (only the room was on an upper floor and - egads - they had an open balcony which a small child could have falled through the railing); just like the McCanns they protested that the British do this "all the time"; just like the McCanns they turned the blame away from themselves and on to the police (whom they sued for $300,000, in addition to suing the hotel for an undisclosed amount for reporting them to the police!). Just like the McCanns they lobbied British politicians to "help" (in the Adams' case, it was a nasty attempt to persuade people with children not to go to Florida on holiday!); just like the McCanns case the British press went bananas, accusing the police of incompetence and worse and pointing their fingers everywhere except at the Adams. Unlike the McCanns, the Adams were thrown in jail. Unlike the McCanns, no long-term harm came to the Adams' children. One thing that sticks in my memory is the police's response to the Adams' protests that leaving one's small children alone for hours at a time is the norm in the UK: "You could eat your children in the UK for all I know - that doesn't mean it's legal in the United States".

Note to Robert C: Nobody WANTS it to be the parents but statistics don't lie. In 75% of cases it IS the parents.

You're talking, I believe, about JonBenet Ramsay. Yes, there was evidence of entry near the window in the basement where she was found; no, there are no similarities, in that the Ramsays did not leave their children unattended in one building while they went to another to stuff their faces; yes, they WERE questioned by the police; what you failed to mention is that the police botched this one right from the start because it was deemed a kidnapping -- and the scene, ALL OVER THE HOUSE, was HUGELY contaminated BEFORE the little girl was even found! And, yes, the parents always had their lawyer present - but do you understand what the Miranda rights say? "Anything you say can AND WILL be used against you." The police pointed to the Ramsays from the start (as soon as they found the little girl's body), and they didn't really bother looking at anyone else, not until new investigators were brought in. There was never any evidence found against them -- that's why they weren't ever charged. Yes, they are both cases of abduction. Hopefully, they're not both murder cases. But the two cases are hugely different.

Are you talking about JonBenét Ramsey? Last August some guy claimed that he killed her but it turned out he was lying his dna did not match what was at the scene, and there were some other inconsistencies. The Ramsey parents were suspects at one time but again there was no evidence to link them to it. Her mother actual died a year ago of ovarian cancer. The Ramsey case was done very poorly to begin with, it is thus unsolved.

In the Ramsey case JonBenet’s mother discovered she was missing early morning December 26, 1996, and there was a ransom note. Later that day her father and two of his friends found her in the basement, that was one big mistake. Only authorized official should have been able to search the house not family and friends, this was a crime scene. With Maddie there has not been ransom note, shes gone with out a trace.

Yes I have read this case over and depth: The man charged in the end was a set up and the parents are just like the Mccanns, same things, lawyers, money, odd facts etc

JonBenét Patricia Ramsey (August 6, 1990 – December 26, 1996) was a six-year-old girl found murdered in the basement of her parents' home in Boulder, Colorado, nearly eight hours after she was reported missing. The case drew attention throughout the United States when no suspect was charged and suspicions turned to possible family involvement. The tantalizing clues of the case inspired numerous books and articles that attempt to solve the mystery. Many details of the case, including her parents' wealth, her apparently violent death, and the fact that JonBenét had frequently been entered in beauty contests, enhanced public interest in the case.

i smelt a rat from the start. That mother looks a hard faced *&& to me. She had time to accidently kill Maddie, go back to the bar, plan her next move return to the room so that everyone thought everything was hunky dory, she could of pretended to be changing the babies nappies for half an hour & feed them, gone off with the body & returned & again carried on visiting the room & no body would suspect that anything had happened to the child. She should never have left the kids in the first place. Not without a baby sitter. NOWAY

Well there was Jon Benet Ramsey. Jon Benet's parents were accused of it I believe but could not be proven, but there is a story of another little girl years ago that was taken from her bedroom and found later dead. The parents were eventually convicted of the crime but for a long time they were on the news pleading for their child. I cant remember their names however it was so so long ago. Also there was Susan Smith who drove her to baby boys into a lake and claimed I believe she got car jacked. She was so believable on tv when also pleading for her childrens safe return. She later admitted to the crime as well. Most recently there is Scott Peterson. His very pregnant wife dissappeared. I believe she was close to due date. I had my doubts about him right from the start because I dont now he just didnt seem distraught over her being missing enough. He was later convicted and is now on death row. He dumped his pregnant wife off of his boat into the ocean or a lake or some body of water. He was believable for many people though for a short time until his mistress gave a press conference. Just figured I would add a few to your story...hope you dont mind. It just shows that you really never know who did it until proven in a court of law.

this was the case of Jon Bennet Ramsey.....a very interesting case. I'm still not sure if there was an outcome. this case was different as the girl was murdered in their own home and left in the basement. Madelaine McCann is missing no-one knows where she is.

JonBenet Ramsey, about 11 years ago now. Her mother recently passed away, and suddenly suspicion is back on the parents.
