Do you think I have a chance of becoming a singer?
Here are basics about me to help you decide:
I have over a 4-octave powerful range--think Christina Aguilera/Kelly Clarkson-ish
I sing and write my own material in both Spanish and English (although I am not Latina)
I am still young (in my teens)

Suggestions for pursuing my dream? Is it worth it?

Suggestions for pursuing my dream? Is it worth it?
UPDATED:
I've been told that I would have an excellent shot at American Idol but I'd rather not have to go on a reality show. So yes, I am good. I'm told that I'm the next Christina Aguilera.
FYI: I have had much formal training

Given how young you are I am going to assume you haven't had vocal training. If you have and you have passed your exams and you KNOW you can sing then of course you have a shot. If you have never had a lesson in your life I have to tell you singing isn't something you're born with. Most people can hold a tune and lots of people have strong voices but without proper breathing methods and scales training then you won't make it far. Also Christina sings in about ten different styles because she's been trained for about fifteen years so that's a hard thing to achieve without training. Christina is a great person to practice to as is Mariah Carey (who has an eight octave range). Good Luck!

You're asking an expert, here, so listen up, and I will give you the straight skinny...(without getting anorexia, stay skinny)
The answer to your question is...
Yes...if you devote your heart, mind, and soul to it...then yes, you could become a professional singer...
However...(and this is a big however...)
Make your pursuit of your dream your "Hobby," NOT your main career goal...
I tell ya' why...
1. The pursuit of becoming a singer is something you can do in your spare time...vocal chords go with you everywhere, and you can practice practically all the time...
2. You still need to go to college and get a degree (a degree in music might be in order here) and focus on your future "main" career goal that is connected to or outside your dream goal, because dream goals have a way of becoming nightmares of low income and terrible retirement planning. If you have above-average, top shelf talent...it will eventually usurp your main career goal anyway, and in the meantime you'll have a solid plan A or B that will forever cushion you from dream goal failure and nervous breakdown disaster...
3. Take this advice from the master...and be sure to sing in the shower, and whenever you're in your car...even at intersections when some guy you think is cute is staring at you...
Hope this helped...

I will tell you write now, these days it as a lot to do with luck. Exposure is the best way. I had several very talented friends in high school who I thought for sure we were going to see go on to do amazing stuff but a lot of them are still struggling muscians. There is so much talent out there that it really comes down to who you know or being in the right place at the right time. Good luck!

It's worth the shot- what do you have to lose? You'll never know what you can do if you never take risks. If the singing doesn't work out then you could always pursue a career in songwriting, without them the artist wouldn't have anything to sing( well most of them wouldn't).

No offense, but have you ever watched the auditions for American Idol? A lot of people make similar claims (sang for the mayor of their town, have a college degree in vocal music, and so on...). Don't get too big of a head, because you're just going to get hurt if it doesn't work out the way you expect. Also, one more thing American Idol-related...that was one reason for Melinda Doolittle's appeal - she was quite humble about her vocal abilities.
I'm not saying that you don't have talent, but you're young, naive, and impressionable.

I need to hear you sing before I can say however if your dream is to be a singer go for the gusto some one will more than likely like what they hear and from there you will have a start.

If you just tell yourself that anything is possible, and go for it! It sounds like you have alot of chance, and the fact that you can write in 2 languages is probably more appealing. Just get yourself out there...
