As for the hair question, it's because it is spring. Cats grow a thick undercoat for winter and shed it in the spring. You can get amazing amounts of undercoat out with brushing. This is natural, unless there are bald patches forming.
As for the weight, how long have you had him? He may have worms, which steal nutrition, or he could just be a skinny cat. It normally takes about a month for a skinny, malnourished stray to look like a solid healthy pet.
No one can say for sure with the vague description you gave. I hope this helps, but only a vet can tell you for sure.

it has a disease (probably worms). I'm not going to tell you to go to the vet because you said not to. Also, I don't think anything about you, because I don't know you and you were thinking about your cat, so I think good about you, even if I dare not say it. You may never know, because I am not telling you to go to the vet =P

Worms, malnutrition, mange, combination of such ---------> Vet.

well this happened to my cat.. most likely it is worms
