I found a baby Blue Jay, I'm feeding him wet cat food. How often do I need to feed him?

He's doing pretty good, he poops, cleans himself and opens his mouth to eat. I have him in a box with tissue paper in it. Is there anything else that I should be doing or not doing? He doesnt have all his feathers yet. Still baby fuzz.

every 30 minutes for about 6 weeks, barring a 10 hour break at night, you want to include insects, and use a calcium supplement like rep-cal, and feed it vitamin water with an eye dropper.

Instead of giving the bird cat food give the blue jay milk with bread in it and get the bread very wet till it is falling apart. Thats what they will eat. I have done that and it works better.

    I hope that will help.

I think I would feed him worms. That's what the mother feeds him or maybe some bird seed if he can eat it or some bread crumbs. I don't think I would feed him cat food but if he's doing good then it might be alright. Here are some sites that might help you in your quest. You are a good person for taking care of the bird that would have have most likely died if you hadn't taken it in. Something probably happened to it's mother.

That diet is not good enough for him. Call a wildlife rehabilitator and ask them to take the bird. You need to be licenced in order to care for most wildlife.

This probably isn't a good diet for the bird. Call your local animal control or wildlife rehabilitator for suggestions. They may wish to take over care to ensure the bird remains wild.

i would google for a bird sanctuary that could take him and care for him properly i found a baby owl once and a baby bat a few months later, i passed them both on to experts who knew how to care for them

I'd take him to a vet. Some animals need a special formula.

he probably needs something more than cat food to eat

call a vet and see what they recommend. Good luck
