All I had to do was put my kitten in the box and scratch the litter with my fingers. (my kitten was only 5 weeks old) She picked it up right away. Cats are very neat animals and it's in their instinct to use dirt or something to "go" in.

This is one of easiest things to do. When you see your kitten looking around or starting to dig at the carpet just put him in the kitty litter. It's better if the litter box has a hood as cats like privacy. Make sure you take him there after meals. He should have food and water available at all times. Don't put the food near the litter box. Don't move the litter box around. Cats are creatures of habit and do not like change. And remember clean the litter box often.or your cat will not use it.

just get the litter box with a good litter in it. set the kitty in the box and the cat will do the rest. if there is an "accident" once or twice, it's o.k. pick the kitten up and try again. cats are (for the most part) born with the instinct to "go" in the dirt, therefore do not need much training. just make sure you keep the litter box cleaned out everyday.

Put the cat inside the litter box and scratch the sand. If she poops or pees out of the box, put the poop or pee with...- use your imagination- inside the litter box and let the cat smell it. That will do the trick. Be advised, some boxes are too big for very small kittens to be able to climb in in the first few days. I had to improvise a small ramp.

Most kittens will instinctively use a litter box. Make sure the box is low enough for him to get into. Several times a day gently place him in the box so he learns where it is located. Have 2 boxes per cat. Place the box in a place that is easy to find, offers privacy, but isn't in a place that the cat will fell "trapped"--cat's hate that.

If you find poop somewhere put it in the littler box so the cat can smell it. and what ever rag you clean the pee up with also put in the box. They learn by smell. If you catch the cat going somewhere in the house pick him up and put him in the box. Best thing to do is to leave the kitten with another cat for a few days, because he will learn from the other cat.
I have two cats and three dogs that are litter trained.

Have a small one at first in a quiet place. Pick uo the kitten and put him in it every few hours to make sure he knows where it is- or put it close to where he eats and then move it in a few months. Kittens naturally know to use the litter box, they just need to find it!

Okay, when you see the kitten "going" in the litter box, praise it by stroking it or giving it a treat when it is done. If you see the kitten "going" where it should'nt be, you use a squirt bottle. When you see him "going" in that place, VERY QUICKLY squirt him once and sharply say, "NO!" He will probably run away... this is okay, because you are not hurting him, your just suprising him.
If they continue to "go" in the wrong place after a week or so... pick it up with one hand under his "bottom" and the other hand holding him by the scruff of the neck. This shows authority and displine. (Dont forget to say "NO!" when you do this...) As long as you support his "bottom" with your hand, this wont hurt him. His mother picked him up like this when he was born. :)
Hope I helped!!!

It seems as if every one has given you good advise. I just wanted to add and say when you put your cat in the box don't then pick up the cat and bring it to another room. Let it find its way around from the box. This way he will know how to get back....
Its a easy task training it. Now you two enjoy your new baby..

Just put it in the box to go. After it eats food rub it's tummy and put it in the sandbox. If you see it in the corners of a room sniffing and looking like it may go then put it in the sandbox too. Be sure to let the kitten know when it messes up that that is bad and when it gets it right then let the kitten know that it is good using tone of voice.
