Why does it seem as though so many atheists fear or hate belief in God?
After coming into this room for a while, I couldnt help but notice there are a lot of atheists that challenge people who believe in God. Why do they think that's necessary? Do they really think they'll change anyone's belief system?

They aren't looking to change anyone's belief's. They just aren't sure what they believe in and it is their way of of trying to validate it.
Therefore..they still wonder in order for them to keep pursuing the same thing over and over.
They are still searching and we must be patient just as God asked us to do.

It is not god that they fear or hate, they could care less about god. It is the religious communities mainly the Protestant communities that shove religion down peoples throats and up their bums trying to convert the wicked into saints like themselves. Its the hypocrisy among Christian's. Christians say one thing and do another if they practiced what they preached it would be a beautiful world but look at what happens when a born again christian gets into office.. umm wow were at war.. and the proposal of a government religion is a frightening thing what will happen to every other faith. I am not atheist but logic dictates here and I'm afraid of Christians they judge everyone and everything, they want people to think and do just like them. I'm not saying there aren't extremists in every faith but wow due to Christianity this country has gone to hell in a hand basket that is what atheists fear not god.
Did you ever think this is the only place they have
to say hey "your an idiot for your belief system"?
"What's up with all the hypocrisy"? Why are you
trying to force people to do things like you in a free country? You know what.. I wonder the same thing.
WTF are you thinking Jesus would not be happy it is even said in your bible not to push your religion on others but it's done on a daily basis as well.
I will not disclose my faith here because it would be under attack just like these atheists. But most atheist are good people and have an ethics structure that make most said Christians look like the devil incarnate.

Yes of course, in every discussion one foolishly hopes to change someone else's mind. Or well, the hope is that you appeal to someone's common sense to discover the inconsistency or unfairness of their position. Obviously most of the time that doesn't happen, but somehow I never quit. It's also just too much fun to quit, and by stating my case I also find out for myself what I believe precisely.
When a question is focusing on a theological detail, sometimes I am kind of embarrassed by a wiseass atheist answer (as in "why did God do x?" answer "God doesn't exist"...), especially if it is the first answer. But that depends on the question. If the question is very presumtious, e.g. "don't you agree God is great?", not only do I agree with the answer "no, because he doesn't exist", I would rephrase it and add it below. Some teasing would be justified if the question is just seeking confirmation. But if the question is serious and really in seek of help, the atheist responses should be relevant and respectful. Which often doesn't happen. But hey, this is a popular website, don't expect too much courtesy here.
Also, some atheists may indeed harbor a hate or fear of religion, because they were harassed by religious people who used religious arguments to do so. Of course it is never justified to project that experience to a whole culture, and I don't condone it. However, one has to recognize that religion and irreligion are social phenomena, and that people's own social experiences are essential to their religious attitudes. And that works both ways. Don't judge atheism as a whole for the bad eggs that choose to troll Yahoo questions...

It goes both ways. Atheists are being told that God wants to kill them for not believing in him. They are also poking fun at the Christians because they think they are wrong. If the Christians think they can turn the world into one big Christian nation where all other beliefs are irradicated then I guess the atheists have the right to believe the same only in reverse. Anyway, on this site we can explore and refute other people's beliefs. I don't think either Christians nor atheists should take it all so seriously.

I hate to say this but I will. It is not only the Atheist that do the challenging. I am Wiccan, and many times, I have been called a "devil"worshipper". I guess Mother Earth and the Moon's cycles are evil. Myself personally, have NEVER challenged anyone on their religious beliefs. Everyone should have something to believe in. Back to Atheist, I have met many and not once did they try to force their beliefs (or lack of ) on me.

I am catholic, raised in a strict catholic home. I don' t think Gods intention was for us to criticize or bash on each others beliefs in him. I read another question kind of similar and this is what free will is. It shouldn't matter to you why they don't believe and the same for them. But believers do the same trying to make atheists believe in God. It's a two way street as far as I can tell.

All we can do is try to make this world a better place and try to remove this ridiculous superstition from our public schools and government. The choice to practice a religion should not be a part of EVERYONE's life, only those who choose to follow the religion. The fact that the majority is of a certain religious group does not mean that the minority's beliefs should be disregarded...... especially in this country where we are all supposed to be free to practice what we choose and not be persecuted for what we believe.
It's not about fear of god or hate the belief in god...... We fear the believers not the belief because the believers are the ones who kill for their ideas, they segregate and judge and belittle those who do not follow their cults. We are afraid of the religious types dumbing down our society and slowing the natural progression of humanity.
Religion is a cancer that must not be allowed to spread because the symptoms include ignorance, arrogance, bigotry, and a feeling of superiority over those who do not believe what you believe. Belief in a 2k year old superstition does not make you any better than anyone else.

I'm with ya!
I dont know why they bother to answer questions that are CLEARLY asked by people who believe in God...its not like they are going to change anything in the way they believe. If they dont believe in God they just need to stop challenging people about their beliefs. Its foolish and a waste of their time. Those are the atheists that still have some sort of fear or question in if there is a God. Seriously if they were REALLY atheists they would just leave it alone and know they cant change anything.

Kakashi, i think of your shape bans 'faith' from actually life. it form of feels a form of non-compulsory greater. some % to be 'good dogs' and it gets somewhat previous a comedian tale at situations. project is we (uk) look to hold your (U.S.) hand fairly than have us stand on our own 2 ft. What greater am i able to declare ? A 'one guy band' shouldn't freeze the Artic - no count how 'warm' that's. there is an "in the worldwide as that's in Heaven" point out. Hell in the worldwide is a actuality - so there must be one 'up there'. we ought to continuously be into "In Heaven as that's in the worldwide" and manage it down here. (St. Matthew 6 v 9 - 13. that's in many situations nicely-called "The Lords Prayer". The Lord being Jesus. God has the be conscious LORD in capitol letters. More often the challenge is not really directed against or hate belief in God but religion, the belief in religious doctrines and impositions. And i think these are oftentimes meritorious.

I think its partly due to the inconsistancy of Christians to present the consistent and true teachings of Christ. Protestants fight the Catholic Church's teachings, therefore we all look inconsistent.
Athiest like to question authority. Atheist like to be "free thinkers." They look upon Christains as thinking what they are told to think.
Atheists are closed to the idea of the Love of Christ and His Church. I believe Atheism, has at its roots, in a failure to love.
Atheists are very individualistic independent people. Can't tell them anything.
The are also fools. The Atheist says in his heart, there is no God. They are their own Gods.
Atheism is a religion that shares the characteristics of religion in general. A body of beliefs. They believe that there is no God. They can't prove it.
When Atheism got together with Communisim, it really messed up the world, yet the Atheist will blame religion.
Was it religion or Atheism that:
Invented the Gulag of the Soviet Union? Soviet dominance of the world? Stalin? Lenin?
Was it religion that tried to destroy the demonstrators of Tienament Square in Beijing China?
Was it religion that allowed soviet leaders to starve millions of their own people?
Was it religion that destroyed many of the Church buildings and killed many of the clergy of the Orthodox Church in the Soviet Union?
Was it religion that created the Cuban Missale Crisis in Cuba?
History religates atheist to the forgotten dust ben. When the United States was founded, many of the founders were deist. They believed in religion in some aspect. But as writers like Thomas Paine came along, atheist, as he was, who really cares about him anymore? Some will read his writtings, but we would rather study, Jefferson, Franklin, Washington, etc.
Fundamental Islam is trying to undo Christianity from without, Atheism is trying to undo us all from within.
