chromium picolinate?????!?

I recently purchased green tea fat burning pills and read the ingredients. Upon reading them i found that they contain chromium picolinate. Although this is used in weight managment and diebetes treatment I also read that studies found that it can cause cancer and chromosomal mutation (lab studies and research)... any info would be great and appreciated....

    Chromium Picolinate has a +2 oxidation state, and is beneficial for you. Chromium +7 is a powerful oxidizer and can do all sorts of bad things for you. Chromium Picolinate is very safe, and is especially beneficial for diabetes and for people trying to lose weight.

    Chromium Picolinate is the most commonly used form of Chromium on the market, and Chromium is an essential mineral that you should have in your diet daily.

    The only studies that may actually be accurate about it causing problems are those that focus on overdoses of Chromium (which IS very dangerous, same with overdoses of any minerals). That being said, "Chromium may enhance insulin sensitivity and effect glucose levels, diabetics and hypoglycemics should consult their health care provider before use" (quoted from the warning label).

    As long as a doctor doesn't say you shouldn't take it, Chromium can be very helpful for a lot of people.

    Oh, and about the cancer thing.... at this point in time, nobody has any idea what causes or cures cancer, so most people that claim anything about cancer are just grasping at straws.

    Chromium picolinate is a bright red solid that is the chromium (III) salt of picolinic acid. It is a nutritional supplement used to prevent or treat chromium deficiency. Small quantities of chromium are needed for glucose utilization by insulin in normal health, but deficiency is rare in developed nations.

    Health claims and debates

    Some commercial organizations promote chromium picolinate as an aid to body development for athletes and as a means of losing weight. But a number of studies have failed to demonstrate an effect of chromium picolinate on either muscle growth or fat loss.

    Claims have been made that the picolinate form of chromium supplementation is of benefit in reducing insulin resistance, particularly in diabetics. A meta-analysis of chromium supplementation studies showed no association between chromium and glucose or insulin concentrations for non-diabetics, and inconclusive results for diabetics. But this study has been challenged on grounds that it excluded significant results.

    There is concern that chromium picolinate is more likely to cause DNA damage and mutation than other forms of trivalent chromium, but these results are also a subject of debate. Other studies indicate that chromium picolinate is safe at even very high doses.

    I read this e-book developed by natural health specialist, speaker, and writer Matt Traverso http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=549

    . It asserts that you could reverse the source of diabetes in as short as 3 weeks. Even though I'm not a physicians or a scientist I don't think that diabetes can be reversed... unfortunately it's chronic disease as far as I know. That said I found this book very interesting and it gave me a different perspective on diabetes, causes and cures. I think it's worth buying it.
