Crappy prom theme + pretty dress = ?
I just heard that my school's prom theme this year is going to be the 80s, which...blech. I already have my dress, which is burgundy with a strapless dropwaist bodice and a poofy tulle ankle-length skirt, and is far too pretty to ruin to make it look like it's from the 80's. I was planning on having silver jewelry and simple hair. Were there any fashions in the 80's that didn't involve plastic jewelry in neon colors, frizzy moussed hairdos, and ripped up sweatshirts, and would be appropriate for a senior prom?

Just because your prom theme is 80's doesn't mean you have to "dress" the part. It's probably just the music and so forth.. I would keep your dress and hairdo the way you want and just have a good time dancing to music that was popular pretty much before you were born.. If you want to do an 80's thing, maybe have an outfit for after prom ready and waiting on standby.. Get out the jelly shoes/bracelets, tease your hair and wear baby doll socks and high heels.... Keep it light and keep it fun... Have a great time.. Good luck..

Sorry 80's fashion is pretty much like you described. Why not try crimping your hair. You know the look you get when you braid you hair and then take it out. It looks kind of wavy. Lace was really big back then, Try watching some 80's movies like pretty in pink, or the breakfast club or valley girl. You could probably get some good ideas as far as fashion Not to mention those are all pretty good movies. And I doubt you will be the only one who didn't dress like the 80's so if all else fails and you wouldn't be caught dead in neon and lace then just go with whatever your original plan was. Most of all have fun with it!

By no means do you have to match your prom theme! It's basically just a theme for the decorations of the event itself. Your dress sounds lovely, as do your plans for hair and jewlery. I'd stick with what you're doing. It is so much fun to get all dressed up and look amazing on your prom night. Even if everyone else dresses up in an 80's style, you'll stand out and probably even outshine them!

Forget the theme and go exactly how you want to. If you think the theme is stupid (I do), odds are you aren't the only one, and you have plenty of time to check out who else is going "normal". Coordinate with your friends if you're worried about feeling self-conscious, but you'll remember how pretty you looked for much longer than you would how well you matched the theme.

THE 80's STYLE WAS AWSOME!!!!! why the hell did you buy a dress when the school year hasn't even started or just did.. can you say just a bit too excited...... It wan't all frizzy some of it was actually very elegant as others said wear whatever.

Lots of people ignore themes. Dress up your gown the way you intended, you'll look beautiful. Why waste a lovely dress with the wrong accessories.

sucks that you have to dress up like your theme. we just wear wat we want and the room is decorated like the theme.
