Why no GPS on the Utah miners?
They were involved in one of the most dangerous mining practices done today. They mine in my part of the country also and after the Spago mine disaster the miners wear a GPS here.

The coal baron who runs that mine is an evil nut whose greedy, dangerous mining techniques have caused the mine to collapse in a continuing wave of seismic activity. He blames, among others, the unions, the media, seismic geologists with whom he disagrees, and employees at his and other mines who have testified about his haphazard approach. Meantime, he is sanctimoniously beating his chest about how much he cares about his miners. Someone like that wouldn't spend the money for GPS devices and underground antennas to track them with.

P.S: Yes, GPS will work underground, although it requires antennas and switching stations in the tunnels -- similar to the cell phone and wireless Internet antennas being plumbed into subway tunnels. This is expensive technology, and, since Murray's mining philosophy is to keep digging until everything collapses -- and, maybe, to get the miners out in time -- it's obvious that he wouldn't have made such an investment. Besides, says Murray, such safety features are just for union lackeys.

Gosh another dim lightbulb. This question has been asked several times before. Use your brains. GPS signal won't even go through the roof of a car, and you expect it to work 1500 feet underground. Amazing how uneducated people are today.
What the hell are you talking about miners wearing GPS devices? there are no miners anywhere who wear gps units OK, That technology does not work at all underground PERIOD. I swear people will believe anything that makes them feel invincible. The fact is that we don't yet have ANY technology to communicate with those miners if they are alive AND we don't have technology to get to the miners fast either as it was proven with disastruous results by the death of the rescuers.
Stop blaming the mine owner. There is no point for him spending money on your "imaginary magic GPS" crap that doesn't exist.

Its the only thing on TV right now ... the mine owner appears to be a greedy miser that would cut every corner possible to line his wallet. It is on record that he is a big donor to politicians that determine safety standards for the mining industry, and has testified in congressional hearings against improving mining conditions.
Safety standards could have been bolstered but he has lobbied against it everytime. That says a lot about his character.

an interesting article i was just looking at. right now they will not be rescuing these miners. i dont know if they even would have been still alive. i just think the mine owner is scared of more lawsuites.....we all need to pray for these miners in whatever manner we pray. just pray for them and their family to have peace. and no i dont think it was an earthquake that trapped them i think it was the mine falling down.

Oh man. I'm watching it on TV now and that fat PIG of a mine owner is just making my blood boil.
He continues to INSIST that an "earthquake" caused the collapse when in fact the USGS has already established that the collapse caused the earthquake.
He is more concerned with the safety of his WALLET than he is of the men that he killed with his shoddy, cost-cutting safety precautions.

I was thinking the same thing. Although, I didn't know that GPS wouldn't work underground.

GPS doesn't work underground. In fact older unit have problems with heavy tree cover.
