For $3,000 I could build 2 super-charged gaming computers. Not that I build them to sell.

Have you checked out Tigerdirect.com or NewEgg.com yet? I've bought computers from them online and I'm very happy with their service, pricing and shipping.

What makes gaming enjoyable is not only a fast system, but also one that has a cool monitor. I highly recommend you go with a 19" inch widescreen monitor, or larger. You will absolutely enjoy your games so much more as the screen is brighter, full of color and you can see so much more detail.

Make sure you get a good video card, at least 256 MB on the card and that you have a strong power supply, at least 450 or higher and that your case has some extra chassis and board fans to control the heat.

    Enjoy!

Places like Alienware are good, but you are paying over the odds for a "branded" computer. THe components are exactly the same (Intel, Asus etc) and warranties are same ,just they can charge extra as its Alienware Try find a local near yourself to quote a system. I do this for people near me and they are amazed when I show them the price vs that of these online retailers (Usually a good £100-£200 cheaper for the EXACT same specification)

I recommend either cyberpowerpc.com or ibuypower.com, both are which essentially the same company. They both have great deals and great price ranges. I bought my computer from ibuypower and was really impressed with how easy it was to put together the computer I wanted.
