How long does wet (canned) cat food last open and in the fridge?
I just found out yesterday that my cat Pumpkin has diabetes. :( I am feeding him prescription (expensive!!) canned cat food (wet cat food). How long will the can of food last if it is opened and I keep it in the fridge?
Thanks :( :(

I use canned food with my cats. I portion out servings in the morning, put any remainder in a pyrex dish and put it in the cupboard. If you use the meat within twelve hours it will be just fine.

I feed my four cats Nutro Natural Choice Dry and wet food. I leave the dry out all day for them to graze on. They like to take a few nibbles, walk away and then come back. They also get canned food for breakfast and dinner. I split a 5.5 oz can between the four of them, so each one will eat 1/2 can per day. My cats usually finish their canned food in one sitting, but if they leave some I let it stay out for about an hour or so and then throw away what is left over. You can refrigerate left over cat food, but be sure to warm it up before you feed it again. Cats are very temperature sensitive at the food must be at least at room temperature. I just microwave mine a few seconds to warm it up. Natural Choice is a great food to feed because it's a higher protein lower carb food and my cats really like it. It contains no chicken by-products, ground corn or any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. I would suggest you feed kitten food until your kitten is one year old unless your vet advices you differently. I'm a pet nutrition specialist with Nutro and have been feeding it for over 25 years now to all my furry kids and it's always worked great. Good luck and hope this helps.

Everyone is correct, but just wanted to add, that if you keep it in the fridge, let it warm to room temp or stick it in the microwave for a few seconds. Most cats don't like ice cold food.

Hi
There is no reason to feed DM or Md, It holds no value over commercially available canned foods and is very poor quality. Read the ingrediants. The idea for diabetics it to feed canned foods under 10% carbs. This gives the breakdown

I'd only give it a day or two.
