Did Jesus ever say "Go and write a bible" or anything meaning that his followers should?

Weren't all Christ's lessons delivered by speaking?

Matt 28: 19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Jesus never commanded that anything be written down.

He did command us to Love God and Love our neighbor.

The Bible Alone doctrine is a man made doctrine, not found in the Bible. Go Figure.

    The Bible does teach:

1 Cor 11:2 hold fast to traditions I handed on to you.

2 Thes 2:15 hold fast to traditions, whether oral or by letter

2 Thes 3:6 shun those not acting according to tradition

Jn 21:25 not everything Jesus said recorded in Scripture

2 Peter 1:20 no prophesy is a matter of private interpretation

Rom 10:17 Faith comes from what is heard.

Mt 16:19 Peter given you keys of the kingdom; power to loose or to bind

Jn 21:17 Peter given Christ's flock as chief shepherd

Acts 15:19 Peter pronounces first dogmatic decision

Gal 1:18 after conversion St Paul visits chief Apostle

Acts 1:13-26 Peter heads the election of Mathias as Apostle

Finally Eph 2:20 Church IS built on the foundation of the Apostles.

Maybe because he never existed? Or he is not the claimed "son of God?" Since the writings of the bible were handed down for generations before being written, then factor in translations, versions (king james version), etc, I think the bible is exactly like the game of Telephone. The only rule I go by is the golden rule. The rest is folklore and smoke and mirrors. ================= I am always amazed that when religion is met head on by common sense, history, and the game of telephone, that I get thumbs down. Remember, Bush said that God told him invading Iraq was a good idea. Bin Laden claims terrorism is Gods idea. As I said, I am amazed that people can't understand the duplicity and contridictions of religion. Therefore, I have one religion, the golden rule. Here is the kicker, that rule is exactly what God wants. The rest of the rules falls into place. And the world lives in peace. =================== Peace Jim .

Yes it was but the apostles also believed that Jesus was coming back soon.. certainly in their lifetime. As the disciples watched each apostle die they needed to keep a record on something stronger than just memories. And there was all those letters that Peter and other apostles wrote, John's visions, Paul's letters to the Gentiles.. they were all preserved and right that they should be.. they were also read at services just like the Torah was read at their services.

He quoted frequently from the writings already recorded by the Jews, and since He said He and the Father were One, it is assumed that Jesus expected to be quoted as well. He never objected to being called Rabbi which means teacher, and most important teachings of any type are recorded.

He did not say to write it but all things from the past we still have has been written down. Many languages are becoming extinct and the best way to prevent this is by recording them so they will not be lost.

Words are words, it is not what one says, it is what one does that has the greatest meaning. I am a teacher and many of my students cannot speak or even use sign language. They learn social skills by example, by doing as their teachers do.

God delilvered visions and spoke the Bible through The Holy Spirit, An excellent example is when John receiving revelation from The Angel and through visions. Another is with Saul when Jesus asked Saul why do you persecute me.

"I will send you a Comforter" - Jesus Christ

    2 Pet 1:21

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

    (KJV)

The Bible was written by the followers of Christ who were led by the Holy Spirit to do so.

No; not all lessons were delivered by direct speech.

Paul had to send much counsel by way of letter.

All prophets had always been directed to record their messages for future generations; otherwise, as the Lord sad elsewhere in scripture, they would have "dwindled away in unbelief"!

Imagine, for instance, if we had no New Testament writings where we'd be today.

    Well, I can tell you:

    We wouldn't!

'... be, that is'. Life would have been killed off long ago, as in the days of Noah, when all went their own ways to their own eventual destruction.

    We learn from one another.

That's why it is so important to learn of your forebearers and family predecessors; you'll learn much from them.

Go to ... learn from what is written and known about them ... and write for your own posterity!

well he said he was going to build his church upon the rock of saint peter, and while this doesn't exactly say to write a bible I mean you're probably going to get very busy, you won't have time to do everything personally all the time, for convenience's sake it was probably the best way to go about it
