I lack motivation, how do I get some motivation?
I really don't do anything with my life. I failed out of college and for the last 10 or 11 months I haven't done anything productive. I really am not motivated too. Even when I get motivation at night, the morning comes around and I can't even roll myself out of bed. How do I get some motivation in my life so I can move out of my moms and get on with my life?
I'm kind of stuck in this spot and I really want to get out in the world and, you know, live a little.
Dear Patty P: I had a girlfriend and she broke up with me. Didn't help with the motivation too much... or maybe it did...
I've been told by a lot of people to go on pills and I just really don't want to do that. I hate the idea of being prescribed medicine for a couple of months to be a functioning member of society again. I know I can do it on my own, I just need something to reach for.

Okay some suggesstions would be go to bed earlier, stop smoking pot (if you do), eat healthier, and possibly get some antidepressant medication. People who lack motivation in the ways in which you expressed are usually somewhat depressed. Cheer yourself up. Go do things you like. I hate getting out of bed and it takes me nearly an hour to do so, but once I am up, I am moving, and that is the hardest part. Make sure you get enough rest and have the energy you need to succeed.

Firstly, sleep earlier so that you have enough energy to focus. When you can focus, think of what you really want in life after getting out of your mom's. It can be a stable job to start with, a hobby that could turn to a small business idea that excites you and eventually be financially free. Use these objectives to motivates you bit by bit every day. When you finally get the energy to start something, do it and never look back. Any obstacles or failure that you might imagine are good things to keep you alert. You don't need any pills after all.
Btw, stay away from weeds and alcohol. They only mess things up.

Medicines can help and you should see a Doctor. But, they only buy you time. The only thing that really holds depression at bay is taking charge of your life. The more you empowered you feel, the less depressed.
Don't worry that the motivation isn't there. Fake it 'til you feel it. Make lists of the things that you need to do and start doing them. Check each one off when you finish it. The first few will be a real struggle, but it gets easier as you start to see things happen and you become used to being active again.
Once you're moving, the motivation will arrive to keep you moving. The Law of inertia is as strong in Life as it is in Physics. The time will come when things slow down and you sink back into Depression. But you will have learned that you can beat it, and how it's done. It'll be easier next time.

look first of all college if i failed i would try as many times as possible to change that. college helps with jobs and jobs helps with a better future. I wouldn't care how long it takes or how old i'll be by the time it's finished i want a good job. A good job is what pays for everything. House car tv electricity water etc. How can you survive without it. college is a great way to meet people too. want a girl friend go to college and have fun and learn something. livin a little by parties works too but being drunk or on drugs is not livin a little. college so many things u can do. maybe u failed because u didn't take the classes u wanted to or maybe u didn't try hard enough. u have chance to start over. don't throw it away! good luck!

depression? nah. Here is what I found makes me tick, I hate college and the whole system behind it, but because I have invested so much time in it I am going to at least get something out of it. Now as far moving forward...
college is not the end all be all that they make it out to be, just because you dont goto college doesnt mean you are doomed to a life of mediocraty in a trailer or apartment the rest of your life. What motivates me is getting out of the system that is set up of chasing my tail by making goods that i cant afford. My ultimate goal is to own a piece of land large enough to be able to live off of and exist there. Screw paying rent, screw paying for gas, screw having a debt, screw the latest and greatest things. People spend their whole lives buying buying buying buying, they need bigger houses to hold all their crap that they usually cant afford, so many people forget that there was a time when all that existed was a family, a house, a plot of land, and a dog.
I am motivated to pull myself out of this death march or materialism even if it kills me.
And to people like you (not trying to sound rude), are you married? have kids? have any pets? in other words do you have any kind of anchor keeping you here? if you were to die tomarrow how many people would actually feel a bump in the road? if the answer is that there are not many then I would suggest that you may not have anything to live for but you may have plenty to die for, you should enlist in the military where you can be recreated into a killing machine, where you can make tons of money based on your performance and not your college level. At least that way when people ask your mother what her child is up to she can say that they are proudly serving in the military and making something of themself, vs the half hearted "oh well he/she is currently working part time, and is taking a year off of school...so how bout them cowboys?"
Source(s): wow waaaaay too much talk about depression, of course the guy is going to be depressed, they dropped outta college and got dumped and lives with mom. the best cure for depression is excercise, get in a paintball league. Waaaay too many go talk to a doctor and get on some pills, pfft ya right, no its not you, its the depression. based on that logic i guess you and 3/4's of the country are depressed. - Anonymous1 decade ago
Sounds like depression. Do you have friends? If so try talking to one of them about it. They should try to help motivate you and pull you through. If you dont have any friends, try finding some from meetup.com. If you are interested in something, ANYTHING try finding a group on there or starting one. Photography is a fun one. I think you just need some good friends that are motivated to get you motivated. Good luck.

Join a club either sports(which will keep ya fit and keep your mind of things) or book lions club, apply for jobs that keep you in constant contact with like check out chick/dude this will motivate you to get a better job so you dont have to put up with bad breath sh*tty nappies, broke *** people who have no fashion sense what so ever.

Try to find a part or full time job. Then get an apartment cheap. In your own apartment you can find lots of stuff to do and inspire you.
By working, and helping others you will also be helping yourself. Good Luck.

did you seriously just ask that question?
first, you have some motivation already if you took the time to ask the question...
second, no one can motivate you but you. you need to just make a schedual and get it done. it, you ask?? only you can say, but i'd say got see a doctor, cuz this sounds like clinical depression... it's perfectly treatable and you can certainly find your motivation!

believe me buddy, theres no purpose in life. true, that wasnt praticularly helpful, but thats what i realized after some serious ******* comtemplation for 5 years. cant beleive where i have ended up now. feel like such a big failure. but then again theres no point in feeling like that. glad i realized it.on the other hand, theres no point in being non-motivated either. both sides are of same value and therefore you shouldnt lean towards either of them. but then again, its your thinking.
