Dontrelle Willis to the Mets?

Harold Reynolds just announced on WEEI that the Tigers are pondering trading Willis to the Mets. Would that be better for Willis to stay in the NL?

Update:

For all those "it doesn't make sense" comments. I agree, I just heard it from Harold Reynolds on the Radio and wanted to get people's opinions. Unless Detroit suddenly got scared of payroll and want to unload a contract, I can't see it. The other thing I though of is that Florida wouldn't trade in the division and Detroit & NY had a handshake deal before the deal was made... We'll see where this goes.

would be better for Willis, but why would Detroit give him up?

if they did this, i would be HIGHLY PISSED. they traded maybin and the guy that was going to be the 5th starter andrew miller. so who the hell would be the 5th starter if they did that? and why give up your top 2 prospects for 2 guys to turn around and trade one. they wouldnt deal maybin and miller to oakland for haren alone, so why would they do this?

and pudge isnt going anywhere either. they wouldnt have a catcher if they dealt him. illitch knew about the trade before they made it, Dombrowski called him and told him they had the deal in place, so i am sure he told him about the extra money in payroll and if he didnt want to spend it, they woudnt have taken willis. not to mention, they tried getting him after 2005, and before kenny rogers resigned. so whoever started this rumor is a moron. and it was someone with the mets. they have no one to trade. their prospects get laughed at everytime they make a trade proposal. they have no prospects remotely close to the caliber of the 2 they gave up to get willis and cabrera.

plus, they sold $600,000 worth of season tickets weds. and $680,000 on thurs. they should sell out for damn near every game, and make around $75,000,000 to $100,000,000 in ticket sales alone for the season. add the hot dogs, popcorn, beer, pop and everything else, and they can afford it off that alone. plus dontrelle has said he wants to be in detroit for the long term, so why would they trade someone that soon after getting him that wants to be there? just a few years ago they couldn't pay someone to get them there. so i look for him to be there and be the number 2,3 or 4 started to take the pressue off of him. in florida he was relied on as being the ace of the staff, and that was a lot of pressure on a team going no where, so he had to try too hard. he'll be a great addition to the tigers.

NAh, Willis is fine at the Tigers, no need to trade him....Him and Pudge won a World Series together with the Marlins, it's gonna happen in DETROIT NEXT SEASON!

I heard in NY yesterday, the Mets would take Pudge Rodriguez's contract off the Tigers hands to get this done...

and the deal would be expanded to include other players and possibly a third team....

It's very possible this gets done before mid-January.

I think pitchers tend to have an advantage when they have been around for awhile and they switch leagues.

Video cannot fully make up for actually batting against the guy and it seems like it takes awhile for the league learn to hit the pitcher. Its along the same lines as how some rookies come out and dominate their first season then get rocked the next season.

Willis is NOT going to be traded to the Mets. He's going to stay with the Tigers and have a great year. With Kenny Rogers mentoring him he will do great.

  • That would be bad for him and here is why.....

Willis needs to get against new teams. He will be shelled with the Mets because the Phillies and Braves hit him around.

That wouldn't make sense for the Tigers to do that especially with everything they gave up to acquire him alongside Miguel Cabrera.

It would be better for HIM to stay in the NL, yeah. Pitching to AL lineups tends to make pitchers suck a lot.

Batting is such a small part of an NL pitcher's responsibility. The average lineup in the AL is much more dangerous than in the NL. His stats would be better if he pitched in the NL because the average batter he would pitch to is worse.

Plus he's a good hitter for a pitcher, they don't hit as much in the AL.
