Cat pooping on floor?

I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow and have been packing my bags the last couple of days. This morning, I went down into the living room where one of my suitcases is and I found a cat poo about 6 inches from it. The litterbox is clean and she's acting normal otherwise. I suspect she knows what suitcase means (that my husband and I are leaving and she'll be babysat by the neighbor) and is acting out. Do you think that's it or should I be concerned that something else, like being sick, is wrong?

Everything is fine. She is just leaving a scent trail so you can find your way home. My male cat does the same thing, and this is how my vet explained it to me.

I agree that he may not like the automated box. If this is what you have always used, try a regular litter box instead. Most cats want to urinate in one place and defecate in another. Give him a second litter box. A different brand or type of litter could do the trick. If you add deodorizer to the litter, stop. The scent can be too strong for cats' sensitive noses. There could be other solutions, but more info on the situation would be needed. Contact a behaviorist of these suggestions don't work.

I think she signaling you that she is upset. Cats are strange creatures so the fact that you are both leaving is upsetting her. I don't think she is sick..I think she is being a little spiteful. Have patience. Make sure you have someone reliable taking care of her needs when you are gone. She may be spiteful with your neighbor too. Tell neighbor to keep litter box meticulously clean and change litter if she continues to do that.

She knows what is up. Every time my mom is leaving our cat does the same thing. You don't have to be worried.
