Surprised by Questions on this forum?

I really do try to answer to the best of my knowledge. I don't cut & paste. Mispelled words & poor grammar don't faze me.

Why do some questions post the very same question 4 times and at the same time? Why do student's ask us to do their homework? Why do so many Askers not choose an answer and leave it up to the voters (well I really like the voters because they seem to read all of the answers). Why do those perusing the questions put a thumbs down and often to very good answers. I know I don't ask a lot of questions but I have been thinking a lot about these few things lately.

Update:

If you find some typos here - sorry, I only have one eye to work with.

Update 2:

I have been asked why I sent this question to Food & Recipes. Well simply this; this is the category I spend time on and where I encountered the reasons for my question

Update 3:

I just noticed something very interesting on my thumbs down question. You cannot thumbs down your own answer only those before you unless you revisit the site. Only two answers did not get a thumbs down so far. Very interesting. But when the first answer came in that has no thumbs down the previous ones did not have a thumbs down either.

    Hello MYRA C,

I recently asked a similar question.

The answers I received were understanding but ...

    1. Too many childish people (not just kids) using the thumbs down on perfectly good answers apparently trying to influence the asker's response (I mean, what's the deal with a whole 10 points anyway? Is money involved and no one told me? :-) )

    2. I have NO idea why some people post the same question numerous times unless they believe that at different times of the day there are different people using the forum. This doesn't explain the same question being posted back to back to back.

    3. Those that ask a question often forget to check back to pick an answer, even when they have received some very good ones - or they have simply "moved on." This forgetfulness works to the advantage of "point gatherers."

    4. Copying and pasting is absolutely okay IF it addresses the question and the answerer sites the source (many, if not most fail to do this). The goal is simply to provide the best response possible to the question. If it comes from another source, that's okay. The answerer did the work.

    5. Students ask for help because (a) they are lazy and are taking a "short cut," or (b) they genuinely need some assistance. Personally, I view this as another form of research and maybe even being smart and showing ingenuity. I don't mind it.

In short - can't answer. Next question is how can Yahoo Q/A be improved?

(Added: See? The thumbs down proves the point. :-) )

Well its an open forum here so you get the good and bad. AS for posting the same thing more than once I have no clue to me its ridiculous. And as for the thumbs down shallow people do it to make their own answer look better I guess.

I do try to read all answers before I vote. However not picking a best answer to a question you asked for example.....what is a good way to fix my hair? And to leave it to voters to pick instead of deciding which one you liked yourself is silly.

I have always picked my best answer myself even if it was only one answer...lol.
