Which would you consider the most romantic country?

This is a respectful inquiry. I appreciate your thoughtful answers so that I can compare them to academic studies. Writing a travel article.

Update:

I noticed no one mentioned Mexico. If it is permitted, could you elaborate?

So many good answers, looks like France and Italy take the romance prize in numbers.

It really depends on what you are looking for in romance and what you reason for going to this country would be. I lived in Italy for 3 years and traveled to France often. Maybe because I was there everyday, neither seemed so romantic to me. But I am an outdoors kinda person so romantic for me could be camping in the Pocono Mountains in the fall, seeing all the colorful trees and a warm fire to cuddle by at night. Or someplace warm like Tahiti with a great beach where you could lay and sip a beer or some exotic drink.

Edit: I was considering Mexico. My fiance and I might go to aculpoco sometime.

Interesting question. Most people probably equate romance with France (Paris) or Italy.

But for me, I would have to say Greece. The Greek islands are magnificent. The scenery spectacular. Ancient history and wonderful food just adds to the ambiance.
