What role would you expect the school to play in the progress and development of your child?
We always have some dreams about our child..that how he or she should mature into an adult. Many children study in a school together having different dreams.
I am interested to know that what role schools can play in this process

Keep your dreams alive in your child! The public school system has their own agenda, and could care less about your dreams for your child. To them, they know whats best for your child. They teach children to comply, obey their rules, study what they want them to, spend money, be a corporate puppet, never question authority and do as they say without questioning. Anyone that shows a hint of self identity, of curiosity as to why the rules are as they are, of trying to forge their own way or dream their own dreams are labeled as "problem child" and medicated to the point of sedation. We as Parents need to cultivate independent thinking, self identity and independance in our kids. Not what the Corporate world wants for our kids. The parents who do this, will pretty much secure a good future for their kids.

What effect did school have on you?
Personally, there will of course be some effect, but those children who are not the norm will have most interaction with the teacher and be shaped. The rest who are quiet won't perhaps be as affected.
My advice to you: make sure your own kid reads a LOT at home. Get library books to put next to the bed and have him read an hour a night--develop this lifetime habit.
There is simply no way a school can assure that your child will develop excellent reading comprehension given all that has to happen in school. So take control of this vital area and make sure your kid 'practices' reading like he would practice his piano music, because reading speed and reading comprehension come about thru practice and more practice..
Source(s): I 'walked the walk' with my own kids and made sure they all read lots at home--by having no tv to distract them! You wanted fun in my house, you had to read a book. My kids learned this habit. And all my kids got outstanding reading comprehension scores on the SAT and ACT--college board tests. - SurrepTRIXusLv 61 decade ago
I think one of the most valuable parts of school is the social aspect. It is where we first learn to interact with our peers and form a social structure that can help define us for the rest of our lives. The most beautiful part, is that we are humans with the ability to adapt, change, and overcome adversity. So even if the school years sucked, we can use that experience later to better ourselves.
