"Learn to value yourself, which means: to fight for your happiness." Ayn Rand If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4464489/1/Fixing_Dusk That's some shameless self promotion. Because no one else would do it, and life's too short to waste on shame.

  • Creative fantasy football draft order?

What are some creative ways to determine the order of our fantasy football draft? It has to be something a pregnant woman can do, so games like Pass, Punt, Kick and any drinking games are out. We're also going to have a bit of a time constraint, so long tournaments like a Madden tournament is out too. Last year we randomly picked race horses and their order determined our draft order. I'd like to do something different this year. It's a 14 person league.

  • 11 week old baby sleep troubles?

I'm having trouble getting my 11 week old baby to sleep in his crib. He'll sleep in his bouncer, swing, bassinet and car seat no problem, but getting him to sleep in the crib is a different story. I try to put him to sleep when he drowsy but awake, but as soon as I put him in the crib he wakes up. I tried swaddling but that didn't work. I try to let him cry for a couple minutes before I go to him, but for some reason he won't self soothe in the crib (but he will self soothe when he's sleeping other places.) When he's in the crib he'll be quiet for 5-10 minutes before crying again and working himself up into a frenzy. The only way I've been able to get him to sleep there is if I wait in his room with him and go to him as soon as he cries until he's fully asleep, which takes about 1 - 1 1/2 hours. After that he'll sleep for 1-2 hours and he's up and upset again. He sleeps for much longer stretches in his bouncer, car seat, etc. I know the crib is best for him at this point, so how can I get him to sleep there through the night without having to check on him every couple of minutes?

  • I saw a truck with a "How am I Driving Sticker"?

The truck was driving wonderfully. Courteous to merging traffic, used all the correct signals, going the correct speed...

I was wondering, are those numbers where you report the driving just for complaints, or would they appreciate a positive call? I don't want to annoy anyone if those phone lines are strictly to address and correct problems.

  • Have you ever sold your hair?

Have you ever sold your hair? How much did you get for it? My hair is ridiculously long, so I was planning on chopping it in a couple months. I'd like to see if I can sell it. I've checked out a couple sites online but I'm not sure which one is the best or the most reputable. All the articles I've read say you can get about $400-$900 for your hair, but I would love to get some input from someone with first hand experience. I want to know if its worth the effort and is a lucrative endeavor.

  • How to get better hair?

I have great hair already, but I want it to be the best it can possibly be. My hair is very long, naturally straight, VERY VERY THICK, and light brown. (I'm serious when I say it's thick. Every hairdresser I've ever been to is always amazed.) It grows quickly. I don't use any blow dryers, straighteners, etc. it's not dyed and I stay away from chlorine pools. However it does tend to be a little on the dry side.

I already know a good diet is crucial. What I'm really wondering is what shampoos, conditioners, serums and the like I should use to make my type of hair be as shiny and healthy as possible.

  • rosemary oil on cats?

This is more of a "public service announcement" than a question. Have you ever spilled rosemary oil on your cat? Today I did. I knocked a bottle off the counter and it spattered on my cat. Immediately she started freaking out and running around the house and was hissing at everything that moved. Then she started panting and foaming at the mouth. I looked up what to do online, and didn't find much info which is why I'm posting here. I called my vet, which was closed, so I called an emergency vet which had me call the ASPCA poison control hot line. I didn't have the $65 call in fee on a credit/debit card (silly me was "responsible" and paid all my bills today) so they wouldn't help me. I did try to wash it off with dish soap, but she fought so I couldn't do a very thorough job. She was still panting and very hot. Normally she's very quiet but she was meowing like crazy.

The only option left was to borrow some money and head to a 24 hour vet. They gave her a bath till she was squeaky clean and gave her some medicine in case she ingested any.

Here's the long and short of it (in caps because it's important):

IF YOU GET ROSEMARY OIL ON YOUR CAT TOPICALLY, WASH IT OFF THOROUGHLY. IF IT IS INGESTED YOU SHOULD GO TO A VET FOR MEDICATION.

For the next 24 hours I am to monitor my cat for any neurological/behavioral effects or any breathing issues, but the vet thinks she is going to be okay. So (to make this a Y!A question) did this happen to anyone else? How did your cat react?

  • What do you feed your cat and why?

I've become a little obsessive about cat nutrition lately, and I think I've found what I like, but I always feel like there's more I could/should be doing for my cat's health. So I'd like to hear from other cat owners. What do you feed your cat, and why did you choose it?

  • Is it okay if a cat eats some dog food?

I have two cats and two dogs. The cats are fed both wet food (about 3oz for both of them both morning and evening) and about a cup of dry cat food for free feeding per day. (I'm going to avoid using brand names, but they're good quality and contain no by-products or grains) My dogs eat dry food only (They're both over 85 lbs) and are fed morning and evening. One of my cats has taken to eating the dog's food in addition to his food. When the dogs are fed he will sometimes eat out of their bowls right alongside them. I try to shoo him away, but unless I physically hold him back while the dogs are eating he'll find his way back to their bowls. I'm afraid he's getting a little chubby because of this. I know cats need the protein and taurine from their food, which he should be getting in a good amount since he has no trouble eating his own food too. Other than the fact he's gaining some weight (which I'm keeping an eye on) is there any problem with the fact he's eating dog food?

(My other cat is a little thin but still within normal weight range and has no interest in eating dog food)

  • Which fuse do I need for headlights on a Subaru Legacy?

I have a '95 Subaru Legacy and the low beam headlights do not work. (The high beams do) I read that this is probably a fuse problem, but I don't have an owner's manual so I'm not sure what kind of fuse I need to fix it or which fuse it is. Would I be better off taking my car to a mechanic, or is this something I can do myself?

  • Cat litter recommendations?

I adopted my first two cats at the end of August and I'm not thrilled with the cat litter I've used so far. The first one I tried was Cedar-riffic. It's a natural cedar litter. Unless there was solid waste, I couldn't tell whether it was soiled or not, and even if I could tell, I wasn't able to get the soiled bits out neatly. I ended up throwing out all of it every time I cleaned the cat box. It just seemed wasteful.

The next I used was Special Kitty clumping clay litter. It was great that I could easily remove the urine clumps, but it did nothing for the poop smell, so I switched to Arm & Hammer Double Duty clumping clay litter. I like this one best of all, but I'm not completely satisfied. It's so perfumey, and I can still smell the cat poop odor. I also put down baking soda in the pan every time I scoop, but it doesn't help enough.

I plan on toilet training my cats, but not till the spring so I'll need something in the mean time.

What are some of your litter suggestions? I want something that will neutralize the odor, without being too heavily perfumed, and something that clumps so that I don't have to waste too much.

  • What is the best way to introduce cats into a home with dogs?

Some time in the next week or two I will be adopting two cats. They are both about 4 months old. I already have two dogs, and I wanted to make sure they don't freak each other out when they're introduced. The cats have been fostered in a home with two dogs, a lab and a pitbull. My dogs are a 6 year old Olde English Bulldog (who is so lazy, he probably wouldn't notice or care about the cats) and a 2 year old mutt (possibly a lab/pit mix?) named Loki. For the sake of our furniture, Loki is often closed off in the kitchen when we go out, so he's used to being in there, although he really doesn't like it. Except for that, both dogs are used to having free roam of the house and sleep in our bedroom with us at night.

I already have a large cat tree set up, with the hope that the cats can go there if the dogs are harassing them at any point.

What would be the best way to make this transition and introduction as smooth as possible? Is there anything I can do to get the dogs used to it before the cats come home?

  • Recommendations for cat products?

I am looking into adopting a cat. I've never had a cat before, so I know very little about which products are best. Which cat litter is best? How often should it be changed? Is an open litter box or a covered litter box better? Any other recommendations are welcome too. I want to make sure I am *completely* ready before I welcome a cat into my home.

  • Moisturizer recommendation?

I'm looking for a night time moisturizer. I absolutely love Philosophy's Miracle Worker Miraculous Anti-Aging Moisturizer, but at $55 for 2 ounces, the cost is a bit much for me. I also love Noah's Naturals Natural Age Repair Face Moisturizer, but I can't find it any more. (I think the company may have busted since they don't have a web site any more)

Can any one recommend a night time moisturizer (SPF free) that is similar to either of these two examples? I'd like to pay no more than about $10/oz ($20/2oz) and one that is hopefully going to be around for a while! Thanks.

  • Atlas Shrugged inspired tattoo?

I'm looking to get a tattoo inspired by the book "Atlas Shrugged". I want to keep it simple, and fairly small. I like subtlety and tats that can be easily covered for professional reasons.

I already have two on either side of my lower back and neurons tattooed around my ankle. I have an idea of what I want for this next one, but I'm open to suggestions and inspiration for what and where!

  • What do you think of this character name?

If you were reading a book, what do you think of the name Breyla for the main female character? It's in first person, so it's only mentioned when it's said by another character.

Would this name annoy you if you read it several times over th course of the book?

How do you think Breyla would be pronounced? (I want to be sure all my readers would pronounce it the same way I do.) I am set on this spelling, so if it doesn't work, I'll have to chose another name altogether. Your honest opinions on the name Breyla would be very helpful. (And thank you, but I'm not taking other suggestions for namesat this time)

    Thanks!

  • What is your opinion on this poem?

I did this as a kind of exercise for a thing I'm writing. It's from the point of view of one of my characters. Let me know what you think, and what you might expect the character to be like. ;)

Keep the ice around my body

Don't let the cold shell break

Feed me the poison of your smile

Don't let me know it's fake

Kill me slowly, I am willing

Just keep me iced and numb

Don't let me feel the pain of living

Drug me up till I succumb

Eat the soul I haven't got

    I've nothing left to give

Just promise me you'll let me die

So I don't have to live

  • How do you tell the difference between a Black Russian Terrier and a Labradoodle?

Last week my husband found a stray dog on the highway (at 3 in the morning) and we're trying to figure out what breed she is. By doing a little research on AKC and other breed sites, I decided she sounded very much like a Black Russian Terrier. She is longer than she is tall, she all black with a few grey hairs, she has a wooly undercoat and curly/wavy hair. She also has thick hair on the bottoms of her feet between the pads and hair in her ears. She does not have the facial "mane" but it looks as though she was groomed at some point in the past and they could have been removed.

I was set to call her a BRT, but a friend of my m other-in-law's that works for my local animal control said she looks like she might be a Labradoodle too. She does seem to have good retrieving instincts, and since Labradoodles are not standardized, it's harder to say that she's definitely not one of them.

I'm looking for someone experienced with both or either breed to help give me some insight and characteristics or traits to look for. I would guess that she's about 9 months old based on how she acts, but I'm not an expert.

For those of you that might be concerned, yes I took steps to try to find her owner. I posted several ads and flyers and called animal control, my local human society, and the SPCA. She has a vet appointment Friday, because that was the earliest one I could get. Yes, I know what I'm getting into. My mother used to breed Irish Setters when I was a kid, so I know about high energy crazy dogs. I also own a dog already, so we do have the food, etc. that we need.

  • How much would electrical and plumbing updates cost?

I'm looking in to buying a house, but before I put in an offer I want an estimate of how much it would cost to update and repair some things. The house was built in 1929, and it's in Connecticut (not the rich area though, LoL!) It's an estate sale, and the previous owner bought the house in the mid-sixties. I'm pretty sure no major updates have been made since at least then. It's just over 1,000 square feet with one bathroom. It's one story with an unfinished basement and a walk up attic.

It still has copper plumbing. It looks like there's some oxidation in some places like under the kitchen sink. Is this something I should worry about, and what might be a round estimate to update it?

It still has a fuse box. I don't know what the amperage is though. I am interested in updating it to 200 amps (and maybe adding 2-3 overhead lights in a couple rooms). What can I expect that this might cost?

I'm not looking for exact prices, but I'd love to know a roundabout figure of how much it would cost to update the house so I can see if I can afford it or not.

This would be my first house, so if there's any other advice on other things I should look out for, I'd love to hear it!

  • How do you say "Hello" in ancient Greek?

I'm trying to write a book, and the part I'm currently writing takes place just before the time of the Odyssey in Ithaca. One of my characters calls to another. So I need something that roughly translates to "Hey!" or even "hello." Just a quick phrase that would get someone's attention.

Any ideas? Even a just a site for reference would be helpful! Thanks!
