Can you be on medical leave and go to a paid training for another job?
The new company did an information request that they normally do when hire people. The old company called and said they have information that I had a job offer. I told them that I was sick and that I applied for that job 6 months ago and had never heard back.

It is totally legal. Just don't let anyone from your first job find out and they will have no way of finding out on their own.

You could be fired by your current company and they legally could do that to you. Basically you lied to your company since you really can't be training for another job while you are supposedly sick. Isn't that what medical leave is for..your too sick to work. Too sick to train for another job? Under the FMLA act, which is a federal act your employer had to let you take the medical leave if you requested it under the FMLA and if you qualified under that act. What the repercussions could be to you if your current company found out might not be very good. Besides, if the new company knew what you were doing, are they really going to want to hire someone who would do that?
I am not sure, but you might be walking the fence on this one.
