I need info on how to train and housebreak a 2 yr. old Pomerian dog?
I have a breed of dog now that I never owned before and they are very difficult to housebreak and take care of. I want to take good care of her, but do not want to loose my sanity, since she does not know me, nor do I know her but we are bonding. Do not want to seem insensitive, but am I too old to have this breed of dog to make her happy. Help, please,

There is a great site about housebreaking. One of the trainers just adopted a 10 year old unhousebroken poodle and is succeeding in her training. So don't give up! You can read about it here:

The whole site is about housebreaking, so you should be able to get some help here too.
Good Luck!

I don't think you can be too old for a Pomeranian, but if you aren't in a position to have the time and patience to care for and train her then that is a problem. House training can be different for different breeds but keep in mind if they are used to being trained differently it may take time to reverse this. Start her out like she is a puppy and take her outside every hour or 2 that you are home. Stay out there with her telling her to "go potty" and when she finally does make sure you tell her "good job" and be very positive.

Good luck. I had a friend who raised pomeranians and she batted zero with housebreaking. You're going in with a two-year-old. I suggest that you start from scratch and take dog obedience classes. They can teach you some techniques that will be very helpful and make you and the dog happy!!

as an owner of many dogs a Pom is one. They are high strung, yet very smart and a very good friend. The crating is a good way of controlling the dog but, when the dog does make a mess (wet or solid) take a paper towel and soak or pick up the mess and take it to a spot where it is OK to do the potty and place the soiled paper towel and place it there. leave it for several days and praise the dog every time he/she goes in the area. Keep it as positive as you can.

it is going to be difficult to train a grown dog!start with a crate.keep her in there when you can't watch her,its time to sleep,or after an accident.take her outside assoon as she gets out of the crate.when you are punishing her or if she won't sto whining, cover the crate with a towel.your dog is old enough to have bladder control,so when she learns to go outside at potty time ,you should be o.k.With such a small dog don't worry about it pulling on aleash but try to use a harness so it won't hurt her.Good Luck!

Start over from as from the vary beginning. Crate training is great. I have trained all of my dogs this way..
Take your dog out of thier crated every couple of hours and let him go outside. While in training keep him in his crate most of the time.
Get a crate that is not so big that he will have a lot of room to walk about. Dogs do not want to go in thier crates as a general rule.
If you wish to have your dog out of the crate for a period of time make sure you are with him and all attention is on him at all times.
As you dog trains you will not have to keep him crated at all times. However, you may wish to alway keep him crated while at work or school.
