My son has spent about 9 months on crutches over the last 2 years with injuries from racing motocross and supercross (which he refuses to give up). It certainly made not only his life but ours a lot more difficult. he is doing VCE at school so had to get around a large secondary college on crutches and he only missed a very small amount of school even with all these injuries.

On the lighter side of things he has turned being on crutches into a small money making venture due to his need for extreme sport. Placing bets on if he could walk the length of the basketball court on his crutches without using his good foot at all and just moving the crutches forward. He does tricks on the crutches and has become a source of entertainment at recess for the other students.

I have threatened him with strangulation if he injures himself again as I am sick of crutches. We know of course own the crutches as it was an investment that we felt necessary with how often they are used.

i was on crutches for a month when i was 5. that was 25 yrs ago, and it wasn't fun. As for changing your lifestyle as a kid on cruches: i couldn't play like the other kids and it was hot out side. I couldn't go up and down stairs or use the bathroomn with out someone helping me. It was horrible and i think it put my mom threw he!! too.

Good or bad? Haha, well a good way is they've taught me to be more careful and such. A bad way is I've been hurt so many times [mainly my right knee BLAH] my parents actually bought me a pair of crutches so that we don't have to rent them every time my knee acts up. (:

  • i snapped my tibia and fibula last year and had to get surgery it changed my life because i could never get to class on time and my ski season was ruined. it was good though because it tought me how to be patient and enjoy the simple things in life. i also got some nasty under arm burns =O prevent by ductaping dish towels around the bit where your armpit goes =]

It just slowed me down a little; esp on the stairs at the train station.

Taught me to be careful on the stairs, and not to take walking forgranted! (Or good parking spots!!)
