cake decorating?

I'm making a birthday cake for a guy in his late 20's. Any suggestions for decorating it?

Update:

Unfortunately he's not into sports or cars. I can't think of any hobbies he has.

What's his fave sport? Use tiny footballs, baseballs etc... Is he a car buff? Put tiny cars for decorations.

I wouldn't do anything frilly. Look at the cake decorations, even craft and some hobby stores have some interesting decorations. Good luck.

Bake 2 cakes - one white, one chocolate. Switch layers, with chocolate on the bottom and white on the top. To create the curve of the yin yang design, fold up a 15" length of aluminum foil until it is only about 1" high to create a 15" x 1" piece of stiff aluminum that will hold its shape.Grease aluminum strip, then bend to fit pattern. Lay on top of cake. Frost one side with white frosting, the other with dark chocolate, pushing it right up to foil pattern. When done, remove foil, then gently push frosting together along seam line. For dots, use black and white M&Ms or mints. I used the York mints and just frosted the top of one with white.

probably something simple yet classy...like chocolate shavings and fudge on top (more of edging since fudge is heavy compared to regular icing)

i'm imagining like a round german chocolate cake that has a simple 'happy birthday ------' in cursive and chocolate shavings around the edges.

Hmmm. . . try having white icing or the chocolate brown one. Try making cakes life mocha chiffon . . . or banana-coffee pie. it's easy to do. and it is also delicious.

and if he likes no design, try just putting the icing one the sides and there. . . just put lighted candles. . . happy birthday to the guy . . .
