Would anyone be interested in a spiritual forum of 'dueling masters'?
I have an idea. A 'dueling masters' forum. It would be best in a place where there are threads, and one can access it direct - not only via email. i think the PHP forum would work. Then anyone invited to participate in that forum, the current members would know they had a good solid base of the fundamentals. Possible rules:
1. everyone accepts that all are on equal footing, there is nobody superior to another, all can shed light.
2. anyone can critique and point out the other's conditioning and patterns - freely - and all must be willing to accept the others reflection without retreating.
3. people remember why they are there - to see their own conitioning and concepts - to grow beyond - they value the other players to help them see one's own hidden aspects.
4. people must respond to all critiques, they must confront the conditioning, concepts, beliefs, etc., that others point out.
I think this playing of 'hard ball' could be quite creative. Anyone interested?
Okay, there is some response and interest. The more I think about it, I think this could be very creative. I could set up a group at yahoo groups - is dueling masters okay for name? suggest something. all people must participate - no lurkers. particpating members are all co-owners, there is no moderation, all work together on establishing rules of play, all work together for text on main page and graphics and message sent to new members, etc. I see it as an evolving group, and not only that we critique each other, but use it as a creativity think tank. so all topics are welcome, and practical daily ones are good ones to show ourself, express ourself and get feedback. please edit your answers and add ideas such as places to do this (msn groups, yahoo groups) and name suggestion. then i will set it up and invite anyone here interested to kick it off. I must admit it's a little scary thinking about it, but that tells me it will be good.
Yes, i think for people to be open enough to be free to express themselves, then the group should probably be private archives for members only and then also people should consider enrolling in it with a nickname not associated with their more well known nicknames. I know 'egos' are afraid to be found out, and the more one is building oneself up as a teacher, guru, etc., then the more rigid this is and the less it wants to be touched. the rules and intention of the group will be set by the members, so it can evolve. one thing that is needed for this group to succeed, is that participants have to have the authenitic ability to self-question. so it requires certain steps have been done. if that is not the case, then it is when you get people ganging together against others, and forming group viewpoints and coming down on others. if this happens it can be recognized and brought out, etc. all is fair. i think it would be good for each member to invite someone they know who is capable.
great point beiYin, listening to pavoratti, in his second appearance caused tingles all over. then the enjoyment of all creating something together, having fun with it. that should be the attitude.
'symphony of light'?
i think the group needs to be larger than 3; 10-12 would be good. one needs enough perspectives to cover more angles.
many more good ideas and reflections have been added. i think nbm brings up a good point that the group needs a strong outside focus, and what is suggested is very good. so i see the group will have 2 goals: an inner one - the 'ego buster' aspect and an outer one of how to present enlightenment issues. i think about the name and still like dueling masters, for the reasons that tamara suggests. beiyin's names and video make me laugh alot today - i think ego busters is good. i will set up the yahoo group 'dueling masters' and then add details here of how to join. we will just use this group as a kick-off to refine our intention, name, etc. we can easily create another later. it's too hard to have an exchange here.
i have formed the kick-off group. everyone should have a yahoo id, so it is an easy place to start. the link is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/duelingmasters
all interested are welcome to join the kick off group. I requested the 'authorization to join' option only to keep out robotic spamming, so you can type anything in the box for reason why you want to join. I'll just accept you, no matter what you type in.
Joe: i am interested in what you have to say, regarding past experience with free for all forums and in regards to invitation to join - what is best in that. please join the kick off group to add your input. i do like this forum for what it is, but the possibility to have an exchange is very limited, the Q/A aspect is like BeiYin said: it's like talking to someone at opposite ends of a football field.
i made two introductory posts to the groups to kick things off. if you subscribe later and select email option for posts, you may not get those posts. so please check the archives/posts at the web interface to see posts you may have missed. I'll check this question for further points in the next days, but prefer now to respond in the yahoo group.
i changed the yahoo group to open membership, because i can't sit at the computer all day and wait to approve people via email. i want that people can start to post whenever they are ready to do so. in a few days i can close it again so it doesn't get full of money maker spammers.
the group is set up, and yes, you can still continue to participate in yahoo Q&A. At the moment it is in the formative stages, so anyone interested should join now and put some energy in it, to see if it might work. Think of it like an experiment. Of course one can leave if it's not for you at anytime. I think all participating will learn something whether it succeeds or fails. I close this Q now and focus on the other to see what comes.

It is worth to give it a try. I will give my best.
First: I would not call it 'dueling masters', I know what you mean but dueling has still too much of fighting. Look at this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99kjFdLFjH4&eurl=
What these three do is no fighting, no competition, although they are showing themselves and how good they are. They enjoy it!
And with this many other people enjoy their 'duel'.
I think it is good to start with some rules, but there must be the possibility that these rules can be changed if the participants want this and can give a good argument. Not like here in answers.ya, there seems no way that the existing rules might be changed, there is no human contact or voice. One must follow the 'guide lines' or one can leave.
It might be necessary to not only have the intention to see ones conditioning and concepts but also to have the intention to do something together, like investigating something etc.
There should not be a 'must'. There can't be any obligation to respond. If somebody doesn't respond then this tells that this person doesn't want to look at him/herself. Then this is obvious and even must not be pointed out. And then of course what is this person doing in the forum?
Anyway, I think only very few people will be interested, but it is possible to start with only three.
This kind of forum will not be a competition for Yahoo, so we can continue to talk about it here.
Edit:
To start we are already enough, yes, 10 or 12 would be good. The name of the forum "Symphony of Light" is far too much! More simple would be better... Like: "Ego Quantum Jumpers" Huh no, too muchi! Or better: "SeSeTe= Self Seeker Team" This is inspired from the video I watched yesterday, I will try to find the link... Here it is: http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=cGRXF4t_nHI
I'm not a foot ball fan, but it is really funny!
Next suggestion: ???
What about:
"The Ego Dust Cleaner Team"
"The Ego Bin Inspectors" or "The Ego Bin Checker Team"
"The Personality X-rayers" or "The Ego Busters"
"Transformation Mill"
"Ego Hot Seat Hall"
"Double Heat Sweat Lodge"
"Illusion Recycler Team"
"Spot Pointer Board"
"Check Point Ego Traps"
Edit:
Reading this names again they sound more like the name of a heavy metall band, it seems indeed difficult.
A good forum would be in Phpbb, but the download was momentary out of function. I will try later...

Good for you, bringing it up! Sound's like you've got a lot of passion - and maybe a bit of a competitive streak!
It is obviously stimulating to compare ideas and want to share our particular light, but 'hard ball' exchanges can degenerate quickly into 'piling on' or into defensiveness. This is the only site I've found that prevents that from occurring.
I've participated in such discussions before - the dueling masters idea - and no one is open to other approaches, because this level of individual is already settled into a particular path and you won't find any openness to other perspectives. It tends to be unproductive.
And, as far as confronting each others conditioning, concepts, etc. that is a VERY unique approach, but without privacy and trust, it is impossible to get people to disclose enough about themselves to determine the conditioning that has caused their belief system.
Nevertheless, I agree that discussing ideas with people who are passionate about 'enlightenment' or serious about internal spiritual work is always interesting. I'm in if you want to give it a try.
After reading BeiYin below, it occurs to me that you/we might consider a forum for seeking a new way to present the value of enlightenment, transcendence, etc. today. There are plenty of sites where people are immersed in a particular theology or group and simply hearing one more argument for an ancient or even new tradition can become tedious. Perhaps that might be a goal that would pull our various perspectives together into a worthwhile goal.

It might be interesting. It would depend on the level of commitment of the participants and moderator. I've seen many different forums and unfortunately most find it easy to critique others but find it difficult to face how others see them, especially over the Internet.
I think you already have five or six to begin with. I prefer yahoo only because that is what I am familiar with and I haven't forgotten my password yet. I like "dueling masters" because it is suitably misleading and one must not be of faint heart to participate.

I agree with Astro :"To know, to share, to glean, to listen, but for me there is no competition around 'mastering' this life." And with that said, I am interested in participating.
I'm sure the "conditioning aspect of all" would be interesting and informative, but since we are, for the most part, talking past that aspect and more about direct experience, an abundance of words can become confusing, or even misleading. But, as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Free for alls' are messy, I already have seen this in action and it fails to captivate . Posting something your contacts will receive a copy of and inviting responses (kind of like here) is a more civilized way to go, and does not require an RSVP to attend.
What is the php forum? I have a homesteaded forum elsewhere that I control. I could link you to it or show you how to get one of your own.

Great idea, anything to raise oneself from the quagmire of dross that usually accompanies a question put here for getting people to look within.
Count me in, but I too am not keen on the wordage that masters 'duel'. To know, to share, to glean, to listen, but for me there is no competition around 'mastering' this life.
Interesting your question was here, I have not been here for some time, and felt to look in and am pleased to have done so to find something of this interestingness.
May you find the beings you are looking for. The more I feel into this, the more I feel it would be of benefit.
Bright blessings
Peace in the heart

I would very much like a Spiritual forum for a Cooperative Exchange Explorers Menus. I thought this sight was it. Only one rule should be necessary so that it does not become a competition. Participation in the fourth state of consciousness only.
Very good idea yeteban I would very much like to see you there.
Thank you for bring it up.

I like the idea and would love to be included! Count me in, Betsy! :)
How about "Insights" for a name.
*I know that much will be 'ironed out' later, but I'm just curious...will "cutting and pasting", long quotes by favorite teachers, be part of this forum? Sites that I have visited (that do this) can get very tedious. Something to think about.

It seems to appeal instantly to my preference for challenge...however I do have a question : it appears that much time and thought is asked to be devoted once one is permitted in, therefore for sake of clarification, I Ask : May one continue belonging to Y/A's questions, if one joins your group???
I need an answer to this before my decision is made.
Therefore, would you please respond?
Thank you, Buddhist 6!

I would love this, although I am no master. I would pay someone to follow me around with a notebook pointing out those things I am unable as yet to see.
Blessings!
