My (male)cat befriending neighborhood riff raff!?

LoL but its true! we started letting our cat outside & he LOVES it! the problem is our neighborhood is SWARMING with stray cats. Now when we let him outside he is bringing back more and more "friends". they all sit on our back porch railling hangin out . Now we can't get rid of them. we have NEVER fed them or anything but try and chase them away. they just sit and wait for him to come outside and they all take off together. i think my feline friend may have joined a gang. LoL what do we do? how can we get rid of them? can we get our village to get rid of them? help? do i just try and keep him inside?

Update:

LoL yes he is nuetered but he DRIVES us NUTSo when we dont let him out. he literally starts climbing the walls, screens, kids etc will he eventually stop doing this? he is a VERY sneaky little punk and is really fast LoL. it is very hard keepin him indoors. this is why we let him outdoors in the first place.

    Sure hope he's neutered!

Or you will be creating a village of cats!

Safer to have him as an indoor cat, one day he may not return.

He is neutered, of course? Make sure he has his shots, use a good flea & tick product, and be glad he's not fighting with them, because now that he's used to being outside, you'll have a hard time making him an indoor-only cat again. Sounds like he's the leader of the pack!

If you had a child that insisted upon going outside against your wishes would you allow him? NO! You have to be the dominant one and not allow him to go out! The idea is to give him things to keep him occupied. Housecats need options. Cat trees, scratching posts, stimulating toys, attention. When he goes near the door, spray him. I had the same problem, we kept a spray bottle outside the front door, before we walked in, we'd stick the spray bottle in, give a few squirts and then walk in, to keep him away from the door.

Keep your cat inside, where he is safe! That will eliminate all the problems, eventually they'll realize he's not coming out. I hope that he's neutered and that you aren't contributing to the amount of unwanted, homeless cat population!

How FUN! Maybe now he'll catch Feline Leukemia, get hit by a car, poisoned, shredded by wild dogs, lose an eye in a cat fight, lie bleeding at the side of a road or tortured by cruel children!

Do you have any clue about how dangerous it is outdoors for cats? Instead of living 15-20 years he'll probably end up living only 2-5. Isn't that something to LOL about????

    Ah bless him lol

He is just being friendly but the problem you do have is that the stray cats might have FIV/FeLV and if they are not neutered they will tend to fight and that is when the FIV/FeLV can be past to your cat.

I do not know the answer as to how to stop this other than keep him indoors but Cats should be allowed to have their freedom and if he is going to be unhappy kept indoors then its not fair.
