Parenting question: New drug called "Obay" supposed to control kids... anyone have any real info?
So this new drug is being marketed in Canada. Apparently it controls kids behaviour, moods and in some ways, thought patterns.
The marketing scheme says "When kids have thoughts of their own..." Obay
Does anyone have any experience with this? Does anyone have an opinion on chemically controlling kids?

It's fake:
The Torontoist has been following a a local teaser campaign which, for a couple of weeks, appeared to be a campaign from a pharmaceutical company for a fake drug called Obay. After much sleuthing, the campiagn turned out to be for Colleges Ontario, a pre-college group representing area colleges in Ontario.
A teaser campaign using a fake drug is a daring move but it appears no one got lawsuit happy. The campiagn itself is funny. It promotes a drug that makes kids think more like their parents, sort of like mind control in a bottle.
The ad copy is great. It reads, "My son used to have his own hopes and aspirations. Now he has mine. Thanks, Obay!"

When you were a kid whenever you or anyone you knew got punished were things never taken away from you (even if it was just like a toy or a privilege)? Cell phones these days are privileges if your bad it gets taken away just like the tv, video games, computer etc... When I was growing up before I got a cell phone when I would get in trouble I wasn't able to use the home phone well these days home phones are rare so taking away the cell phone is the same way. Also, when I did get one and the same for my children when they get a little older if you have no cell phone than your not going anywhere so taking a phone away can mean being locked in the house for however long the phone is gone. And when my children do currently get grounded they lose their bedroom rights to their tv, computer, games, or whatever else may be in there. So no I don't think parents have lost control of their kids its just a different way of punishing them. Not every parent is the same some wont punish their children while others do and I'm pretty sure its always been that way in some form.

Yeah, how about just using good ol' fashioned discipline and teaching your child right from wrong like every other family has used now and in the past? I'm not interesting in a quick fix medication to do my job as a parent. Who knows what kind of side effects (both short and long term) it may have too.

That's awesome how you can still avoid being a parent after you've given birth. Just freaking awesome.
Wait, no, it's lazy and irresponsible.

This was all just a hoax. If there were any truth to the matter, then I would say it was ridiculous, but it doesn't matter because it was made up.
