The amount depends on your income and how much net tax you paid for 2007. If you had at least $3000 of eligible income for 2007 and you filed a joint return, you and your spouse together would get at least $600 for the two of you. If your net federal income tax before the child tax credit was more than that, you'd get the amount of your tax up to a maximum of $1200.
The $1200 only goes to joint filers who paid that much in net federal income tax for the year. If you did, then you'll get the maximum $1200 stimulus check. If your tax for the year was less than that, you'll get the amount of your net tax, with a minimum of $600 for the two of you, if your qualitying income is at least $3000 and doesn't exceed the maximum $150K.
If you are eligible for the rebate for yourselves, you'd also get $300 for each dependent child under age 17.

Depends on how much you made, how much taxes you paid, how you file and the ages of your children.
The tax rebate is based on your 2007 earnings and Federal Income Tax liability.
You would be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $600 if you paid that much in Federal Income Tax. If you only paid $350 in taxes (less than the $600 rebate limit), you only get back $350. If you had earned income or social security of at least $3000, you would get at least the minimum rebate of $300. Similarly, couples filing jointly can receive up to $1200. If you qualify for a rebate, you will receive $300 for each dependent child under 17.

I was told it goes according to a particular line in the tax return. Like 1040 A is I think line 37.

No way to say accurately as more information is needed. See the IRS pages on the rebate here: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=177937,0...
