Shannon stepdad downloaded"Indecent images of children graded at level one to four"...what does that mean?
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2008/04/03...
This article refers to a grading system of pornographic images.
All child porn is abhorrent, but it would seem that the law grades the level of indecency.
Does anybody know how many levels there are?
What do they mean?
How serious is "one to four"?

In the case of R v Oliver and Others, the Courts adopted a system of grading child pornography through levels 1 - 5, 1 being sexualistation of a child, 5 being rape and bestiality. Not very pleasant at all.
Having level 4 is a very serious offence due to the severity of the acts being depicted. It carries a custodial sentence which is terribly hard to avoid.

Sorry dlwelnel, he didn't have a level 5, he had level 1 - 4 but that is bad enough.
See Timmyt's answer for an accurate description of the grading system for indecent images of children.
1 is naked pictures - 4 is sexual penetration, so in other words he has been looking at pictures of adults raping children.
The only thing worse than a 4 is a 5 which is beastiality or sadism involving children.
Any sexual thoughts or actions towards children is disgusting and sick. They need to bring back hanging for 'humans' like this.

It means that she is being "held back" and will not proceed to the next grade in the fall. She did not make high enough grades to merit moving on to the next "level." Were you aware of her poor progress through looking at her report cards? Were you in communication with the teacher at all? This really should not come as a surprise. Best of luck, dear.

Grade One is the "mildest" (for want of a better phrase), while Grade Four is very, very nasty. James M has enlightened me to the fact there are five, so I figured it out from there. Judging by this, Craig Meehan viewed some seriously nasty and abhorrent stuff. Lock him up and throw away the key, the perverted little bleeder.
Source(s): Sorry for the last bit of my answer, but words can't describe how I feel towards him. Karen Matthews' kids have been at risk for years, and I am thankful that (as far as we know), they have not suffered at his hands. - 1 decade ago
There are 5 Levels.
---
They mean the following:
Level 1 Images depicting erotic posing with no sexual activity
Level 2 Non-penetrative sexual activity between children, or solo masturbation by a child
Level 3 Non-penetrative sexual activity between adults and children
Level 4 Penetrative sexual activity involving a child or children, or both children and adults
Level 5 Sadism or penetration of, or by, an animal
---
The maximum sentence for producing Level 4 images is 9 years in prison.

I don't know if in the UK you call your school year levels grades, but in the US we do and the first thing I thought was that the kids were in grades 1 to 4. But it would have been much easier to give estimated ages of the children. Grading child porn is odd. But I guess maybe a picture of a baby on a bearskin rug rates one level while something more pornographic rates higher?

Storing any kind of Pornographic material is a violation or two laws, the first law will land him him prison for quite some time, the second will land him in Gehenna

I was also slightly mystified to read this. So I googled "indecent images level" and got a link to a 2006 court report.
