Absolutely, the Bible states that there are twelve disciples for the purpose of judging the twelve tribes. That is why it was necessary to elect Mathias to replace Judas.

Mat 19:28 And Jesus said to them: Amen, I say to you, that you, who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of his majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

There is a verse, I'll show you -

Luke 22:30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

12 is an important number in the Bible, as is 40, as is 8 and 6 and 7 of course.

God uses numbers a lot frequently.

He refers to the "number of man" ect.

See Hebrews for more on the 40 years.

The 12 tribes of Israel were around long before the disciple's were.

now, THAT would be an interesting connection, wouldn't it?

actually, a lot of numbers repeat in the Bible: 3, 12, and 40 being the main ones. This is actually based on numbers that were believed to have been sacred numbers.

No. Unless you want them to.
