How to convince momcat that her kittens are safe after moving them?

4 weeks ago my cat had kittens under our bed about 4 weeks ago.

She has been outside a few days before we adopted her, and put on a lot of weight. We took her to the vet about a month later and he said she wasn't pregnant. :P D'oh.

We let her stay there for a few days, then got a towel under the kittens, and a day or two later, moved them to a box a few feet away.

Last night (4 weeks), she decided that they needed more room to explore, and lifted them out and to the floor next to the box.

Woke up to a swarm of kittens crawling around on the floor underfoot.

So, we decided we needed to move them into our spare bedroom. Cleaned everything up, set up the essentials, moved the kittens in with their box.

Set up a gate so momcat can come and go as she wishes, but she keeps trying to take the kittens out with her. :/

How can we help to convince momcat that her kittens are in a good, safe place?

It's a lot safer in there then it is in our bedroom with us groggy, clumsy humans..

Update:

This cat was pregnant when I got her. She was tossed outside when her old owner had to move. She spent about 3 days outside before a friend of mine found her, took her in, and offered her to us.

She has not been allowed outside since she has entered my house, nor will she ever be.

Had the vet told me she was, or COULD have been pregnant, I would have had her spayed BEFORE she had them. But he said she was NOT.

She will be spayed as soon as possible.

The kittens will go to people I know and trust, and if I can't find homes for all, I will KEEP them. Yes, they will all be fixed, and vaccinated.

Please don't call me an ***. I had no control over this.

As for the kittens, they are IN DANGER where she wants them. There are powercords that can't be removed. We are not 'awake' when we get up to pee, or go to work. These kittens are barely walking, and are dark colored, in a dark room, against dark carpet, in the middle of the night. SHE can dodge our feet. Kittens can't. :(

you will have to lock her in the room as she will always try to move them cats are funny they think that you are fow not friend. trust me i have nine cats and have had 5 different litters so i guess i am an asshole too.dont worry about that person that said that to you it just shows they have no compasion about your situation. All my mum cats had their kittens in bad places so i locked them up in my bathroom with water and feed and a kitty litter and they all calmed down after about 2-3 days.Just be patient you are doing the right thing.Hope all goes well.

you will have to shut her in the room with the kittens and eventually she will warm to the idea i had it with 2 of my cats and that worked a treat :)
