Wild Cats?

Our neighborhood has a problem with wild cats. We're out numbered!

Who do I call to trap/neuter them? Will an agency do this or do I need to do the trapping?

They spray everything in site, is there anything I can use to get rid of the smell?

Update:

I don't like the thought of putting them to sleep. They hunt birds and things here they could probably take care of themselves pretty well w/o help from humans.

I wouldn't necessarily mind the spay/neut/release thing as long as they stop spraying!

If you go to your local animal shelter, they will let you borrow a trap. It's fairly easy to use, just set it up, leave some food in it overnight, and you should wake up to an agitated cat.

Please don't take the cat to the shelter though, they will euthanize a feral pretty quickly. You should inquire beforehand at the shelter for low cost spay/neuter clinics. I have a fabulous vet who lets me show up without appointments every time I catch a stray.

About the smell, I use vinegar and water, and it seems to work pretty well.

Good luck, and God Bless. :-)

    This is a complicated answer-

First off, theres probably a few people in your neighborhood who have unfixed cats, and just let the kittens go, and in turn, they grow up wild, and produce more wild kitties. If you just trap the cats, the same problem will occur in a few years. You need to find out why there is such a high concentration of cats in your area first.

Second, you can call animal control to help you with this problem. Animal control will come out, set traps and catch the cats. The cats will most likely die. Also, by taking cats out of the environment they live leaves holes for other cats to come in and take over - so the problem might not be solved, especially if there is a local source for these cats (Released Kittens)

Your best bet is to call your local humane society or Animal Rescue, and see if they will help you trap the cats, get them fixed, and return them back to the place they came from. This is called Trap, Neuter, Release, and its growing in popularity, because it works. No kittens are born, no open holes are left open for new cats, and the spraying stops because hormones are under control.

This Alley Cat Allies TNR Webpage

    http://www.alleycat.org/resources_care.html

Alley Cat is a national group devoted toward helping Feral Cats.

If you can't find an organization to help you fix these cats, I would call the local vet. Often times, a vet will give huge discounts to cat rescuers if they bring in a large amount of cats.

As for smell, I don't know. A pressure washer maybe?

You can rent a trap for animals.Animal control will pick them up if u have them in a box or cage that has air in it.If it is a box poke holes in it.They will pro bally put them down if their wild.Same with the humane society.Cats r so over populated it is sad. They can go into heat while they are feeding new Born's.Just 1 cat not fixed can lead to 20 by the next yr.As far as the smell goes if it is in the house urine gone works.outside I would call a vet or pet store &ask them .Cat urine is hard to get rid of.GOOD LUCK!

If you call the vet he should be able to help you. They are better aware of agencies that assist in matters of animals. The cats will keep your rodent and snake population down, so if at all possible keep them around. Ask the vet about the spray smell. He should know.

You mean the mom is a feral cat - a house cat that is homeless. No one can tell over the internet if the kittens are part bobcat. It doesn't happen often but it can happen. A lot less likely if you don't have a bobcat population. Take them to the vet and see what they think.

Here's one for all those people that don't get their pets spayed and neutered and let them run loose! Humane traps are usually used to trap them but then the animals are usually euthanized because they are too feral to ever become a pet. You may try contacting your local animal shelter.

I regards to the stench of cat pee.....good luck.

You can call animal control, but they may put the animals to sleep rather than neuter/spay them since feral cats aren't really adoptable.

all animals MUST be on their owners property AT ALL TIMES, if they aren't they MUST be UNDER CONTROL on a leash. you can call the animal shelters in your area and see if they will help you out or if you can borrow some live traps.

make your neighbor wash all your stuff that THEIR cats have sprayed with nature's miracle.
