Why does my cat do this?

My cat is pooping on our bathroom floor. I need help understanding why so I can fix this. Please read further because I will cover the bases I know... I clean his litter box twice a week completely. I sift through it at least twice a day to check for wastes. He has been with us since October and I have never had problems before other than an occasional one or two but I always figured they were stuck to him and it wasn't his fault. now for two weeks he has been full out crapping on the floor or our rug. When I find this I wash our rug and floors but I can't do this everyday...why is he doing this. Also, he has so many toys and we play with him all the time, so I don't think it's boredom. Any help?

Update:

No new litter. Same box and same place. If he is so improperly trained then why has he been crapping in his box since October?

It might be something as simple as he's decided he no longer wants to use the same litter box for urinating and defecating. Did you change the brand of litter?

When our cat did this on our rug she was mad that we got a new litter box and had moved it. Is the cat skittish or is there anything new that cat may be afraid of? If you changed to a new kitty litter that may be the reason to.

hi try putting the litter tray in the bathroom i now it might be a little crazy but try it there might be a little smell for a few days maybe he feels more comfortable in there good luck

this is unusual because cats don't like to just go to the bathroom all over the place, they like to be discreet about it, at least mine do and i have 3 of them. if the litterbox is clean then i wouldn't see why your cat would do this. i would ask your vet to check him out.

It might be upset or stressed. Has anything changed in it's environment ?
