If a full-faced helmet law was put into effect....?
Just a hypothetical question. THIS IS NO A DEBATE ABOUT HELMET LAWS.
IF a FULL-FACED helmet law was put into effect and heavily enforced, would many Harley/cruiser riders stop enjoying riding and stop riding their motorcycles?
This is not meant to be a silly question, but a somewhat serious one as over 80% of Harley /cruiser riders I see don't wear helmets or wear just half-helmets and am wondering if it would kill their enjoyment of riding if they had to wear full head protection.

Ah, but it IS a helmet law question.
You are now to restricting what type of helmet may be worn in your hypothesis.
As you can see I'm against helmet laws in all forms.
But, there is a reason for the differences you see. It has to do with the riders themselves, and their primary age group. Typically, the cruiser type rider is older. Younger people are now being taught they NEED all different kinds of things to be safe.
BTW, 80% of the rocket riders I see are wearing shorts.

I ride a full face helmet only until it gets too hot, then I ride a 3/4 helmet with a full face shield. I ride for long distances, and open face helmets just make you more tired. I can't explain it. I personally feel more glad to be done riding when im not using my full facer. And I ride only with SNELL. AS I mentioned in another question, what will look better you in your helmet or your Grey matter poured over a couple lanes of road? I have seen a lot of cruiser styles wearing full face helmets. Just keep the bike in such clean shape that they'll stare at the bike and not the bucket

Around my neck of the woods there are a lot of crotch rocket riders who don't wear helmets either. In fact a lot of them wear shorts and flip flops. How about a law against riding like that? Why are you just concerned about Harley/cruiser riders not wearing helmets? I don't think a full-face helmet law would stop anyone from riding. Those who don't wear helmets would either wear one, with a somewhat diminished level of riding enjoyment, or would continue riding without. Don't you think there are enough serious criminals out there for the cops to deal with? They don't need to spend there valuable resources and time to babysit me and what I choose to wear or not wear.

Interesting, I havnt looked up the latest stats on helmets and I dont know that the FED stats differentiate. Last I did look helmets in general only have about a 35% success rate performing what the intended life saving function. I own both and ussually use the full in rain or high risk situations. However on longer trips I find them way too comfortable and have dozed off, much as if I was in a comfy cage. Whereas I put my little beanie on my head and stayed very awake for the remainder of the run.
Much like seat belts you really dont get the downside of safety equipage and only hear simple statements from the propagandists like "Seat Belts save lives" , Well theve been known to take a couple too.
We would be better off if they pushed reality and said that all the safety gear in the world can't save you and your best chance is with driver/rider education, awarness of the road its conditions and potential .

No, just as no license or insurance wouldn't stop some riders/drivers- neither will a helmet law make folks wear one if they felt strongly enough about it to break the law.
Different strokes for different folks.
I don't always use my helmet, but I would comply if it meant I couldn't ride. I'd rather spend my money on gas and mod's for the bike than on tickets!

Does seem like wind in the face is a big thng for that group.
Think they would just switch to modular and ride around with it open. That doesn't seem to rate a stop around here (of course at hiway speeds the drag would almost take your head off- or maybe it just would be test of REAL man LOL).
But COME ON "somewhat serious one "? not even all states have mandatory helmet laws.

As an HD rider, I would just go ahead and put that helmet on.....rather ride than get a ticket.

I'd continue to ride with my half or 3/4 along with all the other riders who would cause a traffic jam around our state capitol bldg.

There are too many people who would fight against this strict of a law. Hypothetically speaking, I can see people continuing to ride without helmets until they got a couple of tickets or lost their license.
I don't think it would stop people from riding.

It would kill a lot of the enjoyment I get from riding. I like to tour 600 to 1000 mile days. I don't like doing it with my head stuck in a plastic box.
