Enough to pay for his wife an education so she can go to work and stop leaching off of him. ;-)

In a sound, married for life relationship, all income is joint income. Needs change and so do expenses. Budget savings, IRA's, monthly expenses, vacations etc and a reasonable amount for frills. I have had and have seen many instances where the wife does the banking, since it is my experience they are better at it and are more rational when it comes down to family matters. (household planning, improvements etc) The two of you should sit down and figure where you are now and where you want to go with what you have. See a professional (CPA or investment broker) to plan a future portfolio. You have a lot to work with and should find a comfortable median. Work together, not individually.

I don't know why so many people here seem like they disagree that u should have certain sum of money from your hubby as your allowance. In my opinion, a husband should give allowance to his wife to show that he appreciates the wife contribution in helping to organize his house. Giving 600 is more like a salary for a maid. So I can say 2500, but if your husband afford it. Don't burden him if he can't. 200k is big to some people but not for the rest... It depends...

Allowance, you can't be serious. A husband and a wife are a team, a partnership, How does a wife feel like she gets an allowance, a wife is entitled to 50% of what the husband has, just as the husband is entitled to 50% of hers.
How do people expect it any other way?
You were married whats yours is his and whats his is yours.
(althought i hear Prostitues get 250 dollars per instance) If he feels like you need to be paid for your services by giving you an allowance like a child, Feel free to call the Cleaning service and find out how much they weekly charge to clean his house, The dry cleaners and laundromat to find out how much they charge to do his laundry, and the Chef who has to prepare his meals. Once this is done i think the Allowance issue will be changed.

Allowance? Is she paying bills, buying groceries with it? If its just for herself then really I would say 600 is plenty. Especially when he is probably taking home 2800 a week after taxes and has bills to pay.

Allowance? Wow....if you're calling it an allowance that says something about the marriage. I think in a marriage the $200,000 should be shared and they should jointly agree on a budget that includes personal spending money for each of them.

My ex husband made 6 figures, and I still worked. AND he gave me an allowance. That is why he is an EX husband.
