Why do men portray masculinity this way and then blame women ?

Another thing I would like to bring up. How do you feel about the media’s portrayal of men in recent years. It seems that on many shows, men are being portrayed as lazy, fat and unbelievably stupid men with beautiful, perfect, intelligent wives who kindly and patiently accept all of thier flaws. Shows that immediantly come to mind are Family Guy (awesome show), King of Queens, and the movie Knocked Up. I feel personaly that this is unfair - even though often very funny.

None of it is at all funny. It all Anglo-Saxon ‘Princesses on Pedestals’ repressive horse-****. If more women were made to ‘bite the kerb’, this world would be a better place.

Update:

The above was taken from that menarebetterthanwomen site and I see the same sentiment expressed here quite often.

When I've pointed out that the various shows are produced, directed, written and distributed mostly by men, the comments get thumbed down.

- but it's a fact.

Knocked Up:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478311/fullcredits

King of Queens - 426 episodes; 77 written by females.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165581/combined

Family Guy:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385690/fullcredits#wr...

So if men don't like the way they are being portrayed, why not take OTHER men to task instead of dumping their angst on women - usually feminists .

Update 2:

Daboys - explain how it's our fault.

Why not have a crack at the men who are in control of the portrayals?

Nutless ?

Update 3:

Yes Gadg - it's a shocking bloody site. Full of hatred; people saying women should die and all of that. A disgrace.

Update 4:

Thanks for the responses, but Douchey and Yaar, you don't say why MEN are not being condemned for portraying men in these stupid ways.

It's nothing to do with feminism and there is no reason why we should cop the blame because you all won't challenge each other. If you don't like how masculinity is shown - why are you not saying something about it to OTHER men ? (and someone saying women should die because of it? )

Update 5:

Apart from the men here giving each other TU - can the people visiting and also giving them TU - explain why you are in denial about MEN being responsible for how your portray yourselves. Are you all so irrational that you refuse to consider plain evidence that members of your own sex are screwing you over?

Update 6:

daboys and Guns et. al - Noooo - we are still in denial aren't we. Take out any reference to women - focus on the people concerned with: (1) creating the images (those are male) and (2) the people who disapprove of them (according to the hateful post - at least some are male). Why do you men not have the courage to criticize men who are profiting at your expense.

Update 7:

Daboys - so instead of tackling other men head on; it's so much easier to support notions that women should be killed as punishment for how men are portrayed.

Of course they have a choice - they can choose not to profit at your expense.

Update 8:

So Guns, if all that is needed is to protest the networks, why are men not doing that (instead of urging each other to kill women) ... Why not start a good rousing campaign right now. I would support it and I am sure other feminists would too.

Update 9:

Pressured?? By whom? Prove it.

They are still making money off it and that would change if enough of you wanted to address it properly.

Arghh, I just wrote a very long answer and I lost it (observation, better to write in Word and then copy paste)

    I will try again…

You make a very good point, as

“You may not know it, but only 5% of Hollywood features are directed by women!!”

I don’t know these programs you mention, but there has to be a clear differentiation between commercial TV programs and films, which are just interested in making money, and good films or TV programs.

Commercial things, just want to make money and they will try ANYTHING in a fast and easy way. Therefore the characters are usually ONE dimensional and the stories like a rehashed food recipe. The bad character is bad, bad, bad. The good character is good, good, good and so on, the stupid characters, is dumb, dumb, dumb. It is one line from beginning to the end. Anyone that can’t see this difference, needs to watch more quality programs/films, with a better script.

When I try to go through my list of films I have seen directed by women, I don’t remember men been portrayed like idiots at all. Let’s take for example “The Piano” by Champion, and other American and International films.

I had made a list here, but it is easy to Google, so I will not write it again.

But yes you are right the industry is still controlled by men who take the decisions. But as I have seen from some answers, they will keep blaming feminism. Is their daily cup of tea ;-)

Next time perhaps they will think that it was because of feminism that Henry the VIII broke with the Roman church (lol)

    Bigotry needs no logic ;-)

It has become politically incorrect to say positive things about men and portraying them in a positive manner in modern society.

If the media start to portray women in a negative manner, many women(mostly feminist) would protest the f*** out of the network and tons of people would lose their job..

    Get it now?

EDIT: Like Douchey and other guys here already said, I would love to get my hand on the those people. But unfortunately, many of those men are being PRESSURED to do so.

EDIT; Again, they are being pressured by political correctness. Pretty pointless to debate with you, you already have your mind made up.

The same reason that feminists blame men for everything. It seems to me like they both do this to each other. Hitler had Semitic ancestry...but we don't blame the Jews for the holocaust - we blame the ideology of hate. It seems to me those here are blaming feminism not women. There's a difference. You don't seem to recognize that. But both sides seem pretty blinded by their ideologies - so it's understandable.

    Edit:

    Seriously, try something for me...

Look at what you wrote and transpose the words 'men' and 'women'

Does that look sexist to you?

Because to me your blaming all men for the crimes of a few seems pretty bitter and sexist.

What I find interesting is how even if there are facts (not saying there are) that prove men are better than women or vice versa it's labelled sexist. How is that sexist?

As long as you agree that everyone deserves to be treated equally and with respect who cares?

As to that post the point is if you say positive things about men people wonder what your problem is with women, but if you say negative things about men its 'You go, girl!' so I think there are reasons why this occurs, it's just socially acceptable and since we cannot go against this without being branded misogynists we mainly overlook it, but some fools think it gives them the right to actually be misogynistic.. unfortunate

Edit: sorry I thought I did.. I'll explain again though. Because it's seen as socially acceptable to say negative things about men we usually do not challenge it for fear of being labelled misogynists. I'm sure most of us would love to take those men to task over their portrayal of us but like I say because it's become so socially acceptable partially as a result of women's movements (not soley of course), it still has political connotations attached to it making it sort of a "no fly zone" for men in general.

p.s. I'm not in denial at all, i'd love to get my hands on some of those weasels who sell out to political based themes to make an extra couple of $

Like guns said, we live in a gynocentric society

Reported answer to your other question for the record:

I already told you I'd love to, I can't stand it that they're making money off a politically based theme that denigrates us. The reason they get away with it is gynocentricity as a side-effect of women's movements. Now I feel it is you who is in denial However you basically asked the question to validate your convictions, you weren't looking for a plausible explanation at all were you? I thought you wanted answers but now I think you are just pathetic Edit: explained that too.. they mistakenly believe that the denigration of men gives them the right to be misogynistic.. They are deluded. What more can I say.. I apologise for them and can only try to make you understand that they do NOT represent all men. I think clue is in the title of that site, they're hate-mongerers. Now having said that, how can you blame ALL of us for what they do? This sounds suspiciously like misandrony.. We're not "letting" them do that.. I condemn it utterly. So what is the problem?"

Now to address your point. I'm not twisting, you are. You have moved from one "problem" to the next. I have explained everything adequately and you have refused to accept it, stop being anally retentive and realise it is you who is in denial.

Because anti feminist men are a bunch of crybabies who can't admit they're to blame for anything.
